Based on Soviet era science-fiction.

Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power, a turn-based wargame, a digital distribution exclusive, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com!

Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power is a turn-based sci-fi strategy based on a well known Russian novel "Prisoners of Power". A young man crash-lands on an alien planet controlled by an oppressive society, overthrows it, and now we have to deal with the aftermath. The game is, in many way, similar to the previous Wargaming.net title: Massive Assault, also available (and on promo) on GOG.com. It's a game that looks like your traditional RTS, but remains an entertaining large-scale turn-based wargame behind the scenes. A unique backstory, varied units, morale mechanic, and pure strategy - Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power is an important, though long-lost, entry in the canon of PC wargaming.

Launch your massive attack in Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power, is available now, DRM-free exclusively on GOG.com!
I hate to be one of those guys, but, how is this a digital premier when it is sold on GG for some years now? I know it because I bought if from them for some time now.
I am still going to buy it again, from GOG, but...
Anyway, glad to see this and the other games today, here on GOG.
Keep up the great job guys at gog, and please stop with ideas like unbundling.

By GG you meant GamersGate? If so, there is no Galactic Assault: Prisoner of Power in their catalogue. Of course mobygames have GG listed at Jun 02, 2009, 2 years after first release however that could be temporary re-sale until they pulled it out of catalogue (maybe due to publisher mess changes or limited offer, not sure about that era of DRM download of demand stuff) and game no longer was sold anywhere except amazon or ebay so it's indeed digital premier after years, DRM-Free.

IAmSinistar: Hmm, I wonder how much scope there is now for a GOGmix of games here based on specific books? We've got this and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, both based on works by the Strugatskys. May have to see if there are other games that fit the bill.
Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword was supposed to have been based on a novel, and I think the original Rainbow Six had a companion novel (though I'm not sure which was conceived of first). Also, depending on how fast and loose you want to play with this theme, the recent GOG release Act of War was apparently written by a novelist. Oh, and I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream should count, though it was based on a short story. I would imagine there are more, too.

Good ones, thanks! Sounds like there might be meat for such a list after all. Praps I'll start a thread and see what percolates in. Definitely will give you credit for these finds. And IHNMAIMS certainly counts, it's a great story.
Glad to see this here! I appreciate the nice base price. Bought, thanks! Been waiting a while for it. ;)

So... since we have Akella here now.... and we already had both bitComposer and Kalypso here...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we get Disciples III?

Not a problem. =) Regarding one I'm a little less sure about: I want to say that Aliens vs. Predator was based on a John Grisham courtroom thriller...though I could be wrong about that. Now I'm off to research which Poe story Indigo Prophecy was based upon....

Ha! I'm pretty sure AvP is a remake of the movie Kramer vs Kramer, with the kid replaced by Newt. Or possibly Hudson. ;)

And while it's not a book, Alan Wake is certainly based in good part on Twin Peaks. Damn fine show, damn fine coffee.

EDIT: Oh, and duh for me, the Witcher series. I hope I edited my post before CDPR sent out the kill squad. :D

And as mooted, the GOG Games Based on Books thread is live.

Geez, now I feel like a dolt for missing those, too.
Then again, as far as I know, none of the Witcher games was based on an existing story; they merely used the characters and setting and wove their own story (though the first game did use an existing short story as a kind of "jumping-off point").

And I thought AvP was the one where the Aliens sue the Predators for contaminating the Aliens' groundwater due to "fracking"? I must've gotten it confused with something else.

Speaking of Twin Peaks, I'd heard that Deadly Premonition (I believe that's the one) was both directly and heavily influenced by that series...with all that that entails.

And what's this?
http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-GAPOP/galactic-assault-prisoner-of-power

I bought it from them ages ago.

EDIT: It appears the page appears to me because I already bought it from them.
Still, since it was being sold from them, how is the rerelease on GOG this time, a digital premier?

EDIT2: Again, it's not like I care or mind, just curious.

Maybe GG doesn't count? :P
Or maybe, GOG is currently the only place where you can get the game.

Fair enough.
