Maxvorstadt: What are the enhancements in the third and fourth game? I onjy played the first two a bit yet.
avatar
Prof. Curiosa: Mainly new races instead of human to play (with their own advantages), developed items enchantment, and the ability to equip two switchable sets of weapons.
But no new skills?

Wishmaster777: Poor man's Torchlight. It might be good for people who feel the nostalgia, because they have played it before, but for those who haven't, there is no point in playing the skeleton of Torchlight games.
Oh, come on, you don't seem to like these kind of games saying that.

It's like saying why bother with Nox if we have Diablo 3 (or 4, someday, probably only online and full of mtx, and even more casual)

If you liked these kind of games, you should be probably thinking: Ok, Torchlight 3? Wolcen? Both a big fail, one is a casual mobile game that don't seem a "Torchlight" at all and the other is a complete design mess still full of bugs so let's play instead FATE and feel the fun that is lost in those modern games.

Also, this is not the skeleton or half design of Tochlight games. Apart from technical differences, of course, you will be surprised how deep and well done is the design, and how much fun you can get. For just a few euros, this is totally worth (again, if you really like these kind of games)

Kakarot96: This is a very nice surprise! And also a must for fans of the genre, so...complete collection, here i come!

:)

Edit: BTW, apparently the game lacks all the original languages but you can go to \LANG folder and rename your own language .dll to "en-US.dll" (for english UK, German, Spanish, French or Italian)

(Just tested on The Traitor Soul)

Edit2: the "only" problem is that game crashes when starting the game, after intros on Win10. On Win7 it works, though :S
Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work on Win8. the game will crash when starting the game.
Does anyone else have an idea how to start the game in english, when your OS is in another language?

Prof. Curiosa: A tiny bit of information:
It may be advisable to skip the independent version of the two first games (FATE and Undiscovered Realms), and start directly with "The Traitor soul", because this third game contains an updated version of the two previous games.
When you start a new Traitor Soul game, you actually begin in a sort of hub from which you can chose to enter the first and second FATE games, with slightly better graphics and all the useful enhancement of the third game. From the same hub you will also start the "storyline" and levels of the third.
Very interesting information, thank you !
May I ask you..
I bought the whole games, and noticed that I have noticeable framerate drops in the first Fate, especially with ennemies and invocations, but no issue with the sequels.
Do you think there could be a solution to solve this ?
It's not "unplayable" but... not very nice :P (we're talking of drops from no lag at all to around 25-30 FPS)
And... should I skip it directly to Undiscovered Realm, or even further, to Traitor Soul ? If we skip the first one to play it "through" Traitor Soul, what changes ?

Yes ! I made the research too because I've got a french version of windows.

So, to change your language, here is what I finally came up with...
Beware, make a backup of folders etc.. because you'll have to alter game folders/files of installed game.
Here it is to have a game which has been installed in french to be changed into english.

Part 1
Inside each of this folders, we will replace the french subfolders with the eng-UK subfolders. So you'll have to repeat the steps in each folder. Please take attention to the language names of subfolders, which may vary, so choose according to your language.
(1) Go in each folder, you need to delete* the "fr" subfolder.
* (or rename in whatever you want to backup it)
(2) Copy the "en-UK" subfolder.
(3) Rename this copy into "fr" to replace the deleted subfolder.

The concerned folders :
C:\GOG Games\FATE\HELP
C:\GOG Games\FATE\ITEMS
C:\GOG Games\FATE\MENUS
C:\GOG Games\FATE\MONSTERS
C:\GOG Games\FATE\NAMES
C:\GOG Games\FATE\PLAYERNAMES
C:\GOG Games\FATE\QUESTS
C:\GOG Games\FATE\SPELLS
C:\GOG Games\FATE\TIPS
C:\GOG Games\FATE\TOWN
C:\GOG Games\FATE\SOUNDS\VOICES

Part 2
In same idea, one dll has to live same treatment.
(1) Go to the folder, you need to delete* "fr-FR.dll".
* (or rename in whatever you want to backup it)
(2) Copy "en-UK.dll".
(3) Rename this copy into "fr-FR.dll" to replace the deleted dll.

The concerned fodler :
C:\GOG Games\FATE\LANG

Part 3
You have to deleted EVERYTHING in this folder (the "cache" and "persistent" subfolders) :
C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\WildTangent\Fate\

And if you follow the 3 steps, this should work (it did for me).
(the third part is very important it seems, really don't skip it if you modify something !)

hiradot: this did the trick. thank you very much for the detailed instructions.
Ah, great ! :D
You're very welcome, I'm glad I could help you :)
I forgot about this game. I bought it way back in 2002 and never got around to playing it because Diablo 2 owned me hard back then. Might have to pick this one up :)
I had fun with this game back in the day. Liked the vibrant colors, even made some mods for it. Also saved a pic that made me laugh.

A feature I remember liking was the pet. You have a pet that travels with you in the dungeon. When your pack is full of loot, you can transfer stuff you don't want to your pet and send them to town. They'll be gone for a while and eventually return, having sold your stuff. The feature means you don't have to keep trudging back and forth to town to sell stuff every time you fill up, but can keep on exploring and fighting and whatnot.

Literally confirms my statement about poor man's Torchlight.

IronArcturus: Is the game similar to Din's Curse/Legacy?
The only similarities are the top-down view and it's an action RPG, other than that they could not be farther from each other as far as game mechanics are concerned, this is pretty much the original version of torchlight!

Splatsch: Hope this'll help :)
lol that's complicated, why they don't offer changing to other languages if those are already in the game files? It's a bit of a shame that are the players who have to mess with all of that.

Anyway, thank you very much for passing the info! :)
