F-16 Fighting Falcon

Falcon Collection, a retro flight sim anthology, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com - with a 40% launch discount on the Weekend Promo: Retro Mishmash.

Falcon was a game changer. Realism was the name of the game, and Falcon did things that have never been done before. Realistic simulated physics, a detailed, first-person cockpit view, and a ridiculous manual. Starting from Falcon in 1987, through Falcon A.T. and Falcon 3.0 - each release brought us closer to the very real flight experience.
Among the games' goodies, you'll also find a bonus as-is copy of Falcon 4.0, but also the "Art of the Kill" instructional video & PDF - a very real lesson, by a very real F-16 pilot, on how to tame the supersonic arsenal. Simulation mechanics are one thing, the spirit of flight is another - and the foreword says it all:
"Art of the Kill has been designed to teach you the fundamentals of Basic Fighter Maneuvers (BFM). As the name implies, BFM is the cornerstone of tactical fighter aviation. Since its principles are rooted in the laws of physics, geometry and aerodynamics, they are non-negotiable and cannot be finessed."
Badass.

Take to the skies in the extremely realistic Falcon Collection now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.
So it turns out that the Tandy version of Falcon 1 isn't included here. Any chance it might be added?

Al3xand3r: ...
Have you tried increasing cycles? (since those games run on DOSBox)

http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Performance#CPU_Cycles_.28speed_up.2Fslow_down.29

CTRL-F12 raises them and CTRL-F11 lowers them, though I've never tried it myself, admittedly.

Falcon Gold, way cool!
high rated
As i promised earlier, here are some links for adding more content in Falcon 4.0 BMS.

Before everything else, you need to install BMS. You'll need to have the original CD version of Falcon 4.0 or the GOG version. The installation is very straightforward, all you have to do is to download the files from the official website and run the installer.

Falcon BMS doesn't really need any mods since it is already great at what it does (graphics are great, the engine runs smoothly, the simulation is great) and it is ready to fly once installed. But after many flight hours you may think "what if i could fly in a different location?". You see, the original Falcon 4.0 as well as BMS, contain only the Korean theater. And here comes the Falcon community to give us some more theaters to fly.

BUT, it is strongly recommended that you first take some time to read the *bulky* manual, consult many of the available training videos on YT and of course, apply all that you've learned in the game rather than wasting your time trying the different theaters. The Korean theater that comes with the game is already enough for any player who starts Falcon now.

So here are some more theaters to play:

- East Mediterranean Front and it's interactive map

- Aegean Theater

- Balkan Theater

- Israeli Theater

Keep in mind that i haven't tried them myself yet (Korean theater is enough for me right now) so any questions should be asked on Benchmark forum or the respective forum of the teams that created the theaters.

Have fun!

Thank you for putting all this together! When my time frees up I'll definitely give this a go. Hopefully sooner and not later. :D

Yeah, i'm normally not too concerned with visuals, but the CGA version is quite painful to look at.

Maybe all three as the F-15 Strike Eagle Trilogy, oh so good!

You do realize Falcon AT is the remade hi-res EGA version of Falcon 1. It's much better than the Tandy release and easier on the eyes too.

Yep, tried it out and seems to be the same. One question, are the missions the same? The reason I ask is because some of the mission names are different between Falcon 1 and AT.

I'll just post this here for more info if anyone wants it:

I don't get why Falcon 4 is a "bonus" when obviously it is the star of the show. Is there any reason to play the other games over it ?
Haha! I remember playing that first game way back then. Only reason it was possible at all without a joystick was because the PC was soo slooow (8086 processor FTLoss) the game moved at a snail's pace. All I can remember as not so good in it was the low quality of graphics of the landscape, the cockpit was good enough.

Structurally it's virtually the same game but it has been updated on a number of fronts. It plays a lot better

This video has some of the crappiest flying in Falcon BMS i've ever seen. Epic fail!

Find my answer on this very subject in this very thread.
