Yeah, I don't get why people are mad at GOG, or even Steam for that matter. You don't think CD Projekt or Valve want to take your money? Of course they do, but the German law is unreasonable, and no one is going to do a complete overhaul of their age verification systems, or start requiring IDs on file or whatever kind of nonsense the German governement would require just to sell this stuff in Germany.

Sometimes I feel like not making fun of communists is the only requirement GOG's curation cares about anymore.
Character art by Nan Yaegashi (of Senran Kagura fame).

Will buy just for that. Eventually. Kinda drained these days.
Ahh yes, the usual german/australian/chinese problem.

This is all a deep political issue that is against GOG TOS to even speak about so lets just all use VPNs and ignore the underlying political issue when it comes to conservatives and media.
"I'll become a Knight and have lots of wives!"

Nuff said :D

That being said, what do the "action" scenes look like in this game? Slide shows? Or cutscenes? The disclaimer leads me to believe that it can probably get very graphic.

Also, with this and Subverse at the same time, GOG should make the 25th of October the official "GOG lewd day". xD

Censorship is a topic that generally greatly unifies both the conservatives and whatever-you-personally-call-their-typical-alternative. GOG's sadly proverbially stuck in the between a rock and a hard place for actually selling these things.

It's just static CG's. It's been a while since I played it, but I'm 99% sure there's no animation in the ero-scenes. If there is it's not much. There's a lot of scenes in the game though, and lot of girls in it, as you might expect from the first line you wrote.

And yes, it's prettygraphic. There's a couple scenes that might be rough on someone who's very sensitive about a certain thing that starts with the letter "R", but other than that it's honestly not that bad.
GOG: It might have some adult content.
Me: Huh? But the artwork looks pretty innocent at first glance.
GOG: It has BIG "mountains" to explore.
Me: Oh, THOSE "mountains" ;-)

I'm pissed (both at GoG and Steam as well), because selling these games is *not* illegal in Germany.
If you have an age gate in place, you are allowed to sell the games.

And there are several court decisions, that a "Yes, i am over 18" banner actually would be enough.
Just one of our 16 states, some time ago, has notified Steam, and apparently GoG as well, that they think that an age banner is insufficient.

They also notified major porn sites. Has any of those cared yet? No. Has anything happened to these porn sites? No.

And even if you think that an age banner is not enough (i think so too, by the way), there is nothing stopping GoG to use another age verification option.
But they are not doing so, so i have to conclude that GoG does not want to sell these games to germans. And if someone does not want to sell...
Yes, i know that VPNs are apparently an option.

I just did a scroll through GoGs Terms of Service. They include this nugget:

(i) We ask you to follow any applicable geographic or regional, language or location-based restrictions, requirements or rules regarding GOG.

So using a VPN to explicitly bypass a regional block is indeed against GoGs Terms of Service. And while i will not buy another game on GoG for the forseeable future, i also to not want to get my account banned.

Also, here is my stubborn streak coming though. Why should i jump through hoops?
I was going to bypass this due to me already plunking down $350 for a 16Tb HDD, but fuck it, better $30 over budget than $45!

I can't really resist a new JRPG under $50!

Not really, this pattern of conservative governments doing this sort of stuff can easily be observed since the 17ths, especially the US during the 2nd industrial revolution and the UK during the first one. Germany and many asian countries are also essentially have ultraconservative tendencies. Don't let the internet fool you with discussions and just look up how the laws are structured and what and who they favor.

But to be fair, what you also see is autocracy in action. Whether or not this is more related and favorized to and by general leftist or rightist ideologies is something that you can debate though. Regardless, we can probably agree that all bad Politicians are autocrats. Trump or Merkel, they're all essentially the same person if you remove the coating and how much power they have in realpolitics (both factors are important when discussing reality, though when it comes to terminology then just looking at the actions of each politician and how it is contextualized also matters).

Don't let stupid internet shit fool and confuse you, there is a good reason why many forums uphold a "no politics" rule as most if not all discourse online is absolute garbage when it comes to talking about politics and thats me being upmost optimistic about it. What you can do is find and ask people who actually know some things about it by asking outside the online sphere, not some silly forum person like me or anyone else here :P.

Unless you tell GoG that it was indeed you who purchased geo-blocked game XYZ at this particular time, through this particular IP address, they virtually can't trace that purchase made on GoG using a VPN back to you.
They might notice a difference in location from the one you made a purchase from the last time, but that can be due to all sorts of perfectly reasonably... reasons, like going on vacation or taking a short trip across the border just so that you could purchase game XYZ through regular means.
Nothing you could possibly get banned for.

It's either the hoops or waiting for Godot.

Thanks. The store page does a good job at hiding it (besides the disclaimer). I never really played a game like this so it helps me paint a picture of what to expect, should I ever start delving into these games in the future.

Of course they can trace that back to me. i would not want the nuisance to create a new GoG account. Would be a bit hypocitical to setup a new GoG account, when one reason for boycotting Epic is having too many accounts already :p

And there are other ways to aquire games, you know. I did not do that now for more than 20 years, digital distribution just has made it so much easier to just buy games. But if i have to jump through hoops again, i will take alternative measures.
Is that an alien tentacle in your pocket, or are you just happy to see Evenicle on GOG?
