Behind every great empire, there is one great strategist.

Empires: Dawn of the Modern World, a captivating RTS where you dominate your opponent's nation by prospering through five historical periods, is now available DRM-free, exclusively on GOG.com.

From the Middle Ages to World War II, the challenges and tribulations that await your civilization will be plenty. Resource gathering, smart allocation of your workforce, and effective deployment of your forces are imperative to thrive in this follow-up to Empire Earth which emphasizes the diverse playstyle of each playable nation.

NOTE: The game does not currently support multiplayer but we are working on resolving the issue.

trusteft: I thought I played most strategy games of the period. Why have I never even heard of this game before?
I played this game for hours on end when it was released, and completely forgot about it until GOG put it on the front page today.

Seems to have a mixed reception in retrospective, but I just loved having an AoE style game with WW2 units.
The screenshots looks familiar and I also confused this game with Empire Earth. Thanks GOG & publisher.
Happy that Matruchus is happy. :)

Thank you.
I just now noticed this wasn't published on GOG by Activision, though Empires originally was. Since this comes during a time of renewed Activision activity (with evidence that Throne of Darkness will be coming soon), I wonder if biz-dev asked Activ about this, Activ said they didn't have the rights, so GOG went to Stainless instead. (If Stainless had the rights all along, I wonder why this game wasn't here sooner; maybe they weren't aware of it, or there was some dispute.) Not that it really matters, I'm just curious. Also, wasn't this on Steam at some point?

And I like how the Wikipedia page just says "The game reappeared on gog", like it was edited in a rush. :P https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empires:_Dawn_of_the_Modern_World

It's a mystery.

Indeed. It was released 10 years ago on Steam by Activision and was removed 2 years later, because they lost the rights to it or something.

Ah okay. Maybe this case is similar to SiN here - self-published by Ritual Entertainment even though Ritual is no more. I guess whoever had final legal say (former "top men" at the dev companies?) just told GOG to slap in the developer's name as publisher. :P

tfishell: As frustrated as I am with the Galaxy-installer thing, great release GOG. I am surprised it wasn't Throne of Darkness this week, but I assume it'll be that soon. (Granted I'm not the one to be telling GOG what to get, other than knowing what's relatively high up on the wishlist.)
What? I haven't been paying attention to gog recently, too much happening in my life. Am I reading between the lines that they are not offering stand alone download edition along with galaxy but only galaxy to download the latest games now?

No they originally wanted to offer standalone installers w/ an option to install Galaxy (which would be the default setting) at the same time as the game. This would have also increased the size of installers. You could have still disabled it though as always.

Now they will offer TWO installers, the new Galaxy installers and the original "classic" installers that we have always had after criticism of the previous idea. Of course that is the current plan and is subject to change (again).

I feel like one of us should make this better...

Here's the thread BKGaming is referring to: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/offline_installers_with_an_option_to_install_gog_galaxy
Thank you for the amazing release, GOG! I didn't believe it could ever happen.

Is there any chance you would add other localisations to the game?
German, PLEASE! :)
neoee.net created a multiplayer-patch for Empire Earth.
This game uses the same engine. Maybe you should reach out to them to get the multiplayer working!
You have no idea how happy I am that you released this game!
This game is not working. can someone help with it plase?
