Xabyer_B: I'm tired of the stories that always happen with GOG versions. I don't know if it's an error of the page or if this version has really lost languages compared to Steam (5 languages in GOG VS 8 in Steam, Spanish has disappeared). And I don't care anymore, there was a time when I would have liked the DRM-FREE version to be on par in features with the Steam version. No doubt it would be better for not having DRM. But today I'm glad I bought it in Early Access on Steam. It's not my problem if GOG offers less features. It's GOG's problem if it doesn't want to attract customers who speak the languages that this version may be missing.
I just checked for you, and all the Language options are there in-game. So it must be a small error on the store page.

TZODnmr2k5: More a western RPG made in the JRPG style, so it is <not> a JRPG, (Though like many JRPGs it does have cheesy English voice acting) still, I am floored that it came over here, I'm glad I can de-wish-list it from steam!

Thanks, GoG/Midgard Studios for bringing it over here!
So is it a WJRpg? Or an TBWJRpg. Or what about TBWIJstrategicRPGAdventure?

dtgreene: (I struggle to see why games need multiple gigabytes of space, let alone double digit gigabytes of space.)
Textures, audio, models & animation data. These things are already compressed, so to reduce game size any further would require sacrificing quality. But then, I'm sure you're aware we already had this conversation. You seemed to be of the opinion that you're OK with worse quality, so everybody should be OK with it (for some reason). This isn't the 80s/90s anymore, and time and technology marches on.

TomNuke: You can have a JRPG that's made outside of Japan, and it doesn't make it any less genuine. JRPG refers just as much to it's style, and not necessarily where it was developed.

It's got a soundtrack featuring Yasunori Mitsuda, so I think it's "authentic" enough...
Never implied JRPG can't be made outside Japan, or that it being made in Japan makes it better or something, was just curious if it's really Japanese game, because (sadly) GOG has very few of those here.

Non-Japanese JRPG, IMO. Rant if you've got insomnia:

There are a handful of other games that emulate the JRPG style of games and that were made outside of JP or by non-JP gamedevs. Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, FF, FFT, and Paper Mario clones, etc. are some other examples like Battle Chasers (US), Bug Fables (Panama), Cosmic Star Heroine (US), CrossCode (Germany), Undertale (US) etc. Then there are non-mainstream cases that will need their own differentiation like JP immigrants and emigrants, multiple studio collaborations, international talent, etc. already present in some other games like FF9 (Japan / US), The Last Story (Japan / US), Fantasian (Japan / US), Child of Light (Canada + JP artist), and Astria Ascending (Canada / French + JP writer and composer).

As per KISS principle, easier to call it a genre style and tag where it's been made. Adding Japanese elements to a game is easy to do for anyone deep in the genre, culture, storytelling, and artwork. That includes this game, Chained Echoes (Germany), and Wolfstride (Brazil). In general, they're pretty welcoming of more international competition to evolve their fields and genres - I can speak from experience having lived there and actually talking to some of them. Not to mention the non-JP minorities behaving more Japanese than some of their own population.

---

Anyway, back on topic. Very interesting, can't wait for full reviews to come out for this game before buying. Maybe if it gets enough sales, they'll add in JP voice acting too?

MOchoa00: no spanish language?
Check the comment of TomNuke. He explains that the languages are in the game. Probably an error in the store page.

Mafwek: Is this authentic JRPG, as in made in Japan?
Remember that Miraculous Lady Bug is also a French made show and it's pretty successful as well. Also French is more weeb than USA. Unlike that crunchyroll so called "anime"
I wish that devs who use cross-platform toolkits would release on multiple platforms. Linux, in particular. To be fair, though, wine-4.0.3+dxvk seems to run the game perfectly (I haven't tried any other versions of wine).

I was concerned about the ATB meter, but unlike real ATB, enemies can't take multiple turns while you're fumbling through the menus (only one action per turn). I'm not sure, but I think it even pauses when it's one of your characters' turn. It's hard to tell when the tutorial keeps pausing things, and I didn't play long enough to verify. Maybe later.

Well, any game with a main character could be considered a “role” so perhaps we need multiple levels of categorisation underneath that as well...
Happy to see this game here on GOG as well. Putting the Deluxe Edition on my wishlist. :-)

Ancient-Red-Dragon: It's not really a JRPG if it wasn't made in Japan and by Japanese devs.

Having said that, the game does look good based on how it's presented on the store page.

But all the videos I can find of it on youtube are from the early access version, which claim the game is unfinished and needs a lot of work.

Yet I cannot find any videos that answer the questions of: was the game actually finished properly & fully? Has all the work that needed to be done to fix the earlier access version actually been done by the time of it's official release now?

Or does the game still need work even though it's been officially released?
I found this playthrough made few hours ago, maybe it can help. I don’t believe there are already some trustworthy reviews, which spent more than few hours on the game though. So it might not give you all the answers you need.

IE: A Western Developed Game From France In The Style Of A Japanese Originated Computer Role Of a Particular Actor In a Specific Attribute Stats and Skill-Based Game! :)
I'd still like answers to the questions I asked earlier in this thread.
