The bold and the beautiful.

Dragon's Lair Trilogy is now available DRM-free on GOG.com. It contains both Dragon's Lair games, plus their sci-fi cousin Space Ace.

Even if you've never tried Dragon's Lair or Dragon's Lair: Time Warp before, it's hard to ignore their pop-culture footprint. A pretty straightforward story of a heroic knight braving all sorts of traps to save a princess in distress, made into an arcade legend thanks to the fluid animation, beautiful cartoon visuals, and...erm...challenging QTEs that bankrupted many a wee lad.

Its sci-fi counterpart, Space Ace, stars the intrepid Ace as he tries to grow the hell up and win back the lovely Kimberly. Would be nice if he could also thwart Borf's unsavory plan and save the rest of humanity from being reduced to defenseless infants.

All three games have been remastered and contain sweet extras, like interviews with the creators or insights on how their amazing animation came to be.

Caesar.: Noclip did a documentary about the work GOG does to bring classic games to the store. It's on YOutube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffngZOB1U2A

Cool, thanks for the link! :)
Is this game even any good ? as much as like old games this doesn't seem to have the best reputation to say the least from what i have quickly looked up.

Nostalgia is nice but i prefer to not clutter my library, a bit of garbage from pinatas in the past is enough.

blotunga: Released: June 19, 1983? They look a bit younger than that.
In arcades on laserdisc.

Actually, it was stunning for its time.
£17, for what is little more than a memory test?

No thanks. I'll pass!
Sure gives a different feel from the amiga version's.

it's a gimmick, and that does have it's place. I don't want to slam GOG because I am glad it's here, but it's still more or less a gimmick.

You go from point A to point B making decisions. The decision you make determines what "sequence" plays.
I seem to remember reading on these forums a while back that GOG originally rejected Dragon's Lair. Glad to see that mistake rectified.

It's more famous for essentially being an interactive movie but the gameplay has aged quite poorly. I personally don't think it is very good due to how limiting the game is and how unforgiving earlier versions were, but at the same time later versions almost spoon feed what you need to do so players don't get frustrated.

It is a gaming milestone for having such amazing hand drawn animation in the arcades while other games were 8-bit & 16-bit sprites.

So it's more for the visual.
Pretty sweet deal considering that S**** sells them separately for $9.99 a pop. I'll pick this up when I have a little more spare cash.

It's just a memory test, really. You have to remember which button to press, and exactly when to press it.

Not really, but on the other hand the c64 games based on these are fun, but frustrating - more importantly they actually do have (some) game sequences instead of pure QTEs.

SPACE ACE!!! There went my childhood, and all my weekly allowance money!

Later in my life I also bought the DVD version of Space Ace (playable at least with some Windows DVD player software IIRC), but nice to have a more PC-friendly version as well.

Dragon's Lair was... ok, but I always preferred Space Ace which was more like a real movie, not just the same short clips reversed, over and over again.
