The bold and the beautiful.

Dragon's Lair Trilogy is now available DRM-free on GOG.com. It contains both Dragon's Lair games, plus their sci-fi cousin Space Ace.

Even if you've never tried Dragon's Lair or Dragon's Lair: Time Warp before, it's hard to ignore their pop-culture footprint. A pretty straightforward story of a heroic knight braving all sorts of traps to save a princess in distress, made into an arcade legend thanks to the fluid animation, beautiful cartoon visuals, and...erm...challenging QTEs that bankrupted many a wee lad.

Its sci-fi counterpart, Space Ace, stars the intrepid Ace as he tries to grow the hell up and win back the lovely Kimberly. Would be nice if he could also thwart Borf's unsavory plan and save the rest of humanity from being reduced to defenseless infants.

All three games have been remastered and contain sweet extras, like interviews with the creators or insights on how their amazing animation came to be.
They will land on my shelf at some point but for now the price seems a bit steep for me.

Mr.Mumbles: Has that to do with the ugly button overlay shown in the screenshots? I really would not want to see that.
WARNING / UPDATE:

The ugly botten overlay stays onscreen if you play the 16:9 mode!

I had technical glitches at first and that interface must have been falsely not shown on screen, when disabeling the "help option" in my first tries. Damn. :(

If the "Move Help" option is activated, the next correct movement is highlighted. If it is deactivated, the button overlay STAYS ON SCREEN.

The button overlay only goes offscreen, if you play the kabinet mode. Then the overlay is waaaaaaaaaaaaay to the left, but visible, but part of the cabinet graphics. That is okay.

There seems to be no option to deactivate the button overlay in 16:9 game mode. :(

The replay funtion in 16:9 does not feature the overlay, so it is not part of the graphics itself. Maybe it can be deactivated in some way, but not in the normal game menu.

Sorry for the false informations, now I am kind of pissed, too. Would have played in 16:9 mode without button overlay....

Anime-BlackWolf: I have found no way to change the language of the game, I hope they add an update that adds such an option. The german translation is kind of broken... ^^
Is it possible that the language was set to German in your account when you downloaded the game, and every language has its own installers, or did you download an English installer and the game still set your language to German automatically because you're OS is set to German? I really hate the latter - if a game auto-detects your language and gives you no option to change that, it's enough reason for me not to buy it ...

First I installed in German, game was german then. Now I re-installed it (deleting all save games), in English to be sure, game STAYS german.

There is only one installer, no other installers than the international one. So the international installer seems to be region-coded. I play on my fathers PC, OS language is set to german. I changed the Win10 keyboard layout to english US, did not work for the game.

I fear the complete PC must be regionally set to US/England/Australia to avoid this for us germans...

Hello GOG/Digital Leisure:

we need an update to the game for maximum fun/entertainment:

1.) Option to get rid of the mouse button movement overlay in 16:9 mode! You do not need to kill it completely, but for players using the keybord this overlay is nonsense and unwanted. So please make it OPTIONAL, make it completely go away IF wanted.

2.) Option to change language of the game IN GAME. No language autodetection please, I want to be able to change the language of my game without breaking Windows apart.

It is nice to have these games here again, but at the moment I am not so fond of them in their actual state... :(

Well hey, now people can stop complaining that they aren't here and instead complain about something else. :P

Catmancer: I read trilogy and thought the third drangon's lair was gonna be including forgetting that space ace is usually bundled inthe collection. I'm excited either way!

Lucian_Galca: I was confused about that too as I was pretty sure there wasn't a third Dragon's Lair game with the QTE gameplay. There is this however:

http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/dragons-lair-3d-return-to-the-lair
This was a 2002 attempt to reinvigorate Dragon's Lair by creating a 3D game heavily inspired by the original arcade laserdisc game. It was not the greatest of games but I had a lot of fun playing it. I recently did a Let's Play of the game on YouTube if you're interested.

Language can be changed by changing "language preferences" in Windows 10.

Not keyboard-layout, not regional-location.

A complete restart with English (UK English tested) as prefered language is needed to get rid of unwanted localisations. :(
what version is this? is it the full HD remastered available on blu ray or is it a pc version? In fact my big question is: is it possible by buying ths version to play the game via Daphne emulator? the only way to do it now is to buy dragon's lair 20th anniversary on DVD (120$ on ebay). And I will be very happy to buy it via GOG....
It seems to be a remake done in Unity Engine. At least the installed files seem to come from Unity Engine.
So you can't play this with the original 4:3 ratio without a 3D cabinet surrounding the image, and you can't play fullscreen without a stupid button overlay?

I hope these are issues that can be addressed, at least the overlay, because I hate crap like this.

Unfortunately, yes. :(

blotunga: Released: June 19, 1983? They look a bit younger than that.
They were hand animated and used laserdisc in the arcade cabinet. That's why they look far beyond anything else from the time period.
