The bold and the beautiful.

Dragon's Lair Trilogy is now available DRM-free on GOG.com. It contains both Dragon's Lair games, plus their sci-fi cousin Space Ace.

Even if you've never tried Dragon's Lair or Dragon's Lair: Time Warp before, it's hard to ignore their pop-culture footprint. A pretty straightforward story of a heroic knight braving all sorts of traps to save a princess in distress, made into an arcade legend thanks to the fluid animation, beautiful cartoon visuals, and...erm...challenging QTEs that bankrupted many a wee lad.

Its sci-fi counterpart, Space Ace, stars the intrepid Ace as he tries to grow the hell up and win back the lovely Kimberly. Would be nice if he could also thwart Borf's unsavory plan and save the rest of humanity from being reduced to defenseless infants.

All three games have been remastered and contain sweet extras, like interviews with the creators or insights on how their amazing animation came to be.

Anime-BlackWolf: There is a move list helper auto-activated at the beginning, but you can turn it off.

Mr.Mumbles: Has that to do with the ugly button overlay shown in the screenshots? I really would not want to see that.
The Up/Left/Down/Right/Action "rose" at the bottom of the screen? Yeah, that can be deactivated.

I have found no way to change the language of the game, I hope they add an update that adds such an option. The german translation is kind of broken... ^^

Could you give examples for the broken German localisation please?
Regarding the auto detection (did not buy the game yet) first thing you could try is to change your windows region settings to English. There might be an easier way but as I said .. did not buy yet.

Cool. It's a nice quality of life feature, but a bit distracting and not quite "purist" for those that want to play the game as close to the original as possible. Very nice.

Been doing some reading up on his game's development and technical details, which is actually interesting. As I said earlier, it was literally a laserdisc player shoved into an arcade cabinet with some kind of CPU attached to get input, keep score and change the scenes on the laserdisc player.

Since the animated success/failure sequences were all obviously stored on the disc non-linearly, the laserdisc player had to skip back and forth across the disc repeatedly and often very quickly, which they were never designed to do, meaning that a lot of them broke down. The discs themselves are also very easily buggered up by dirt and scratches (since they don't have error correction like DVDs do) so maybe they needed replacing too.

I wonder how much profit arcade owners ultimately made off of these machines with the need to regularly replace what had to be thousands of dollars of hardware at the time.

In this little video pitch by Bluth you can see a bit of the history of Dragon's Lair.

- "Führen Sie auf Abenteurer. Deine Aufgabe erwartet dich."

I read trilogy and thought the third drangon's lair was gonna be including forgetting that space ace is usually bundled inthe collection. I'm excited either way!

Thank you. Sounds pretty bad except for that "deine/dein" - except for letters or at the beginning of the sentence you would not capitalize it or maybe I misunderstood what you wanted to say?

I was confused about that too as I was pretty sure there wasn't a third Dragon's Lair game with the QTE gameplay. There is this however:

http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/dragons-lair-3d-return-to-the-lair
WARNING. I have now problems deactivating the "move helper" that is onscreen in those screenshots.

I try reinstalling, the first time I could deactivate it, now it stands present, activated or not.

Man, what is happening here? :(

The introduction we are talking about is a direct call at the player "help Dirc, help Daphne", I would strongly consider using "Deine/Dein" in this case. It may not be a letter, but it would be more personal imho.

But it is still wrong.

However I found a let's play (german) that is probably the vesrion GOG is selling here. Yes, the German localisation is pretty bad from start. Even in the tutorial there are some bugs.

We definitely need Cobra Command too, I remember sitting in the cockpit cabinet version and loving every second I lasted flying that heli. My favorite of the laserdisc bunch.
