Pioneers. Mercenaries. Killers.

Deadnaut a squad-based survival game, is available now for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux - DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% discount.

So named because they're unlikely to return. Deadnaut is a game of tactics, fear, and survival - you're in command of a small squad of Deadnauts as they explore and battle their way through derelict shells of formerly glorious alien starships. Though you'll be commandeering from afar, Deadnaut is technically a first person game: you're watching events unfold from the relative safety of your command center. Lo-fi displays will be your eyes as you give out commands and flip switches. Your ears will be the hazy field reports of terrified blips struggling to describe the unknown. The Deadnauts' life expectancy is short, but each playthrough will be different enough to keep you expecting the unexpected. Deadnaut is a game with a unique understanding of how to tell a story through gameplay and minimalism.

Hope you don't have plans for after, you're a Deadnaut now. Available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 20% launch discount will last for one week, until Wednesday, March 18, at 10:59 AM GMT.

Now I need a good comedy to get my mind off of it
I feel sorry for you. Have my condolences, Jinsei.
But ya need comedy to cheer you up or maybe some classy gaming, huh? :)
Late to the party, but for those who played Zafehouse Diaries, can you upload your own custom character pictures in Deadnaut as well? Like the way it's done in Zafehouse Diaries (Custom Creator)?

yes, its very similar - and you have a little more (indirect) influence on some things.
as I posted already, one guy on the steam forum for the game was in the process of making the marine team from aliens as a custom character set.

HOWEVER:

Unlike Zafehouse, this game is not turn based, but real time - could be a turn off for some players. Other than that, there are a good amount of similarities in many things. I suppose if you could (sort of) consider zafehouse an apocalyptic diary simulator, then this is the space salvage control console simulator.
So I spent some time with the demo.

Interesting game and concept Kind of like playing that scene in Patriot Games (holy old obscure reference Batman!) where the unit takes down the training camp, and Jack Ryan is watching it back in the States via Sat Feed.

Anyway, it seems like the kind of game that I'd need to spend a bit more time with to get into the "flow" of it and see what's going on. (Another movie reference!...) Like watching the green screen of the Matrix and seeing "blonde, brunette..." I'm not there yet, I just see static.

Looks like it could be very deep and interesting, but requires a time investment to get over that initial learning curve - it's like a slightly less approachable FTL, where all you're doing are the boarding operation bits, but with a TON more options and control. Post-sale, I have a lot on my gaming plate but I'll certainly return to the demo at some point to see if the game is something I'm interested in long term.

And I wish I had the link from Page 1, because I'd love to post that demo in here just in case anyone else missed that it's available!

*edit Here it is!

Demo: http://deadnaut.com/

Thanks again cyboff I'm sure I'm not the only one who will appreciate this!

Thank you, Sachys! I really do appreciate the answer. :D

Lord1238: I will tell you it has a simply interface.
But will will kill your crew to easy at times.
Deadnuats is VERY luck based at times in my limited experience.
And I prefer, some thing you can take strategy too.

So, I NOT recommend this one.
Yep, that sure sounds like a Screwfly Studios game. :P
I wonder if they even kept the abysmal rumour-mongering game mechanic from Zafehouse: Diaries.
