It would seem so from all the hateful posts on this release... which don't seem to be annoying the site's staff whatsoever... as they do nothing for this aggression towards one of their release's devs... which says a lot about gog's political inclinations...

Are there any reasonably authentic Punk Rock-themed games to speak of?

From the perspective of a mere outsider, it seems as though it would be difficult to successfully fill such a niche (perhaps, while also simultaneously appealing to non-fans of this genre of music and/or related manner of dress).

To be honest, as with the "true metal" guys, there are some hardcore "true punk rock" people, while actually those types of music are much broader.
But for them it is only part of the music if they like it.

Avril Lavigne was mentioned already who is categorized as Pop punk.
So if somebody wants to follow that sub style, it stays punk.
Now, if this style is niche, while pop punk was a high seller some decades ago is something we can talk about. You might more run into danger loosing the "punk" guys. But it seems like the old audience from back then didn't buy the game either. Maybe it was not enough fun and to heavy on whatever delivery, I don't know.

And to be honest, talking about Punk.
This are the 2 most successfull german "Punk" bands. And yes, the songs are selected on purpose and german speakers will point out the texts. But it is more about the music in this case.

They are many things, but not niche. They are headliner bands for some of the large rock festivals in germany for decades now, while there are always some people questioning how much punk they still are.

In the end I would say there aren't many games that got a rock theme in general. With Brutal Legend the only one comming to my mind.

Punk rock is great when it's wild, aggressive and rebellious; full of piss and vinegar. When it becomes necessary to create some imaginary troubles and pretend to rebel against them, just to parrot ideas that you think will appeal to young people and sell a product... well, it's kinda impotent: tepid, limp, and soulless. This game looks too conformist, and dares to put punk rock in the title?

I won't keep posting in here but a thought amused me...

Avril was never one. she wasn't categorized as such. she was advertized as a "pop punk princess" by some gla^W magazines. think "mall emo" but "mall pop punk". was she great? she was and IS great. cooler than cool. sick as. but kinda-pop-punk-ish sound now and then and a couple of covers don't magically make her one. whereas The Used and My Chemical Romance ARE pop punk. THAT'S what I meant. sorry if I've once again failed to express my thoughts.

This looks like the sister game to Dustborn to be honest. I don’t think many folks even know the derivation of the noun punk or to punk someone. Lol. MTVs Punk’d for instance? It just makes me giggle to myself for numerous reasons. Punk music is absolutely steeped in all things gay and counterculture. I’m not personally into the genre as I find it annoying to hear, but let’s not pretend that punk rock isn’t overtly gay oriented.
