Dark Devotion is now available DRM-free.

The sanctity of this place has been fouled... Generations of devout Templars who've committed atrocious acts in the name of their faith, find their end inside this fallen temple. Seek salvation and stumble upon terrible truths as you destroy ancient fiends, wield epic weapons, fight off curses, and venture ever deeper into this accursed place.
Nice visuals.

No achievements, what a surprise.
I was thinking of buying it today but now I do not know what to do.

Buy some post it notes and write
"Killed a baddie"
"did a jump"
"completed a level"
and so on

and every time you do one of those things Stick them to the wall next to you screen.

Achievements are a nice addition, but I can not grasp how they could possibly trump DRM Free?

They don't 'trump' DRM-free. This game on GOG should have both DRM-free and Achievements, given that the Steam version has Achievements. GOG customers shouldn't be treated like second-class citizens by constantly receiving featured-removed versions that lack parity with the identical games on Steam.

Who said it's a matter of either/or? People who complain about lack of Achievements or any other features simply want the full package, without any missing content, now matter how insignificant. After all, games here are usually sold at the same price as on Steam or elsewhere.

Let's be honest, it is an entirely secondary feature, not directly related to the game.

And I'm pretty sure it takes enough time to interface with Galaxy to implement it. And as GOG audience is definitely smaller, it wouldn't be worth it to postpone release (or crunch) just for that.
Another one blocked in China?

+1

I couldn't have said it better myself.

lol, probably to avoid confusion (and possible review bombing) with that other game of a similar name...

I can't fault people for being frustrated about the lack of achievements if achievements are their thing, however, I would recommend not to knee jerk lash out at developers. I guarantee the majority of them aren't twirling their mustaches, bragging about treating GOG customers as second class citizens and rolling around "unencumbered" in piles of money. There's often much more nuance to these sorts of things.

Fun side note re: region lock: Apparently this game is NOT blocked on the Chinese Steam store. It has a "mixed" review score and all the negative scores seem to come from Chinese users. But from the looks of it that doesn't seem to be related to review bombing but because you apparently can't rebind the controls. Maybe someone who got this game can confirm this.

The achievement 'meme' was often a steam exclusive feature and was something I believe started or at least mainstreamed by Steam.

I have no idea why people want achievements especially 'finished tutorial- you get an achievement' If people are in that much need of a self esteem boost they can always reward themselves with achievements for getting up out of bed ect.

However each to their own.
