Five years have passed since the release of the original This War of Mine game. To celebrate this anniversary 11bit studios has prepared a surprise for all the fans. A new free update, called Final Cut to the game awaits them on GOG.COM.

As 11bit studios art director, Przemysław Marszał puts it: “Fantastic support from the gaming community was a huge part of that success, so it was without any doubt that this update must be free. We think of the Final Cut as a closing episode to the one-of-a-kind series This War of Mine has been”.

A new update to the This War of Mine adds additional content like new scenario, more stories, quests, and events. Gamers will also receive a brand-new character and remastered versions of classic locations.

mrkgnao: It's an interesting idea, thanks. I'll return it to my active backlog.
That said, if I'm not mistaken, in this game, unlike P&C adventures, time does not stand still while I read...

lazydog: the clock will never really stand still for any decision ;)

that is part of the draw to this game- you have to decide on priorities that have harsh consequences but just may keep your character alive for a little longer.. many moral dilemmas.
Yes. I gathered as much. I don't normally play real-time games (except those with active pause).

mrkgnao: I wonder if this final cut finally has a tutorial or a manual, because I was unable to figure out how to play the game and simply uninstalled it.
Same for me, then a friend (who was more patient to figure it out himself) showed me the ropes. It's a great game, with really hard decisions which may harsh consequences. And it's a very humane game.
Now the greatest hindrance for me to play it is how bleak it is. It really stops being fun when you think about it, the premise, what you're doing.

IMO the game is so bleak that it sucks the fun out of everything.

I understand the feeling. I certainly blundered when playing the game the first few times and I did get tired of seeing the beginning over and over again despite the semi-procedural structure of it. I stuck with it and figured out how to survive (well, some of the early hazards anyway), but the This War of Mine Wiki has a decent quick guide for your reference.

Papers Please too (for me even worse). But I'm still glad there are games like this. Shows the medium has grown up. Both are impressive pieces of art.
