Anime-BlackWolf: It is mostly a matter of context. We HAVE uncut "Wolfensteins" here, too. :)

Now we DO NOT like young girls under the age of 18 in erotic situations. We got that from the EU and over-dramatised a lot when making that into german law. No drawn manga girls, please? :(

Now I fear for "Agony". Will most likely go the same way. Game no problem, Uncut DLC region-locked.

But as long as there is a way to cheat the system, it is only a mild annoyance for me...

MarkoH01: In most cases the sudden blocking of adult only content has NOTHING to do with actual laws in Germany:
https://www.gamestar.de/artikel/steam-adult-only-spiele-sperre-deutschland,3365462.html

Those Medienanstalt idiots already tried to block porn sites as well - but did not have any luck.
Of course Steam has no backbone ... and we all know about GOG...
PORN SITES I get. We are talking forbidden / illegal content there. Upskirt-Shots, Voyeur-Shots without consent are strictly forbidden nowadays. But here at GOG we talk about "painted", unrealistic entities. Makes. No. Sense.

Interesting. Almost seems like a VR game.

Wishlisted for now.

Nope, we are talking about actual professional porn sites with all the legal rules that apply to them (so nothing illegal). Yes, they simply said that it would vbe far too easy to access porn pics. If it would be up to them half of the internet would have been censored. Again, I son't know about this specific game but you might remember that one day to the other Steam blocked quite a lot of such games and GOG simply did the same. So now GOG is simply blocking every sex oriented game in Germany ... because it is easy and they won't get any bad letters anymore (or however those idiots contacted the platforms).

You can acceess "bundesanzeiger.de" to see which games are on the index and therefore the games you can't sell to Germans without proper age verification ... well, you aren't even allowed to advertize them so this thread alone would be forbidden as well.

They'll just be disappointed in you once they see Lil Nas X's music video (Call Me By Your Name). He already gave the devil a lap dance, while you haven't even purchased this game yet! :P

The main problem here isn't that these games are on the index or even that German law makes buying and selling AO games harder - it's that stores like Steam and GOG try to avoid the law by just preemptively blanket blocking anything that they THINK might fall under those laws.

As I've pointed out above, there's a process you have to go through in order to even determine whether your unrated game is considered to fall under these youth protection laws. Until your game has gone through that process (and some games never actually get reviewed in that way), it's to be treated as "unrated" - and to come back to my example from above: Dusk is unrated and it's still available, no problem.

The thing with porn sites is this: as long as they aren't officially a company operating in Germany, puritans over here can't force them to shut down or implement an age verification system in line with German law. However, we've seen a renewed discussion about blocking such sites via DNS blocks in Germany, which is arguably worse.

EDIT: Just to make a point about Steam/GOG preemptively blocking stuff: The Gamedec artbook is actually region-locked on Steam because the devs have declared it adult only and anything with that tag is automatically blocked. But from what I've seen, there's nothing in that artbook which would justify even a USK18 rating.

Cool. What about Agony though? I thought that was supposed to show up (iirc from the unofficially confirmed thread).

I know. But this game is not indexed. So delisting it makes no sense. Further thinking you could block "Commander Keen" that way. That one was never certified in germany, too. It is too old for that. :)

But let's rejoyce and party, at least the game is HERE and there are ways to optain it now. Better than nothing. :)

Yes, I know (well, technically afaik it does not have any USK rating yet) but the Medienanstalt simply threatens stores with the fact that it is not allowed to provide porn materials (of any kind) without proper age restriction ... and those stores ara afraid and block. Simple as that.

Again, in the case of those adult only game it has nothing to do with the well known youth protection laws or the BPJM. This is only the Medienanstalt trying to threaten certain internet platforms.

Since when is it hard to circumvent DNS blocks?

Which fits what I said. This has nothing to do with the rating at all.

Whoever didn't like drawn manga girls, you're probably gonna hate me. Now that Succubus is out with a confirmed adult DLC patch, I have been getting in touch with publishers in the eroge community. So yes, there will be more hentai submissions. Also, let me see if I can get in touch with MangaGamer's people and see if we can't get GOG to add the adult patches for some of the games already here. I love this kind of content and it's nearly always DRM-Free.

Now, about the ages. It is stressed and I do mean before every game starts that all characters appearing in the game are over the age of 18. Remember in the play Romeo and Juliet, older people would play the roles of those characters and that is the same here. It's just a bunch of adults going to school and acting like teenagers. Additionally, all the voice actors and actresses are adults. It's always been role play and in many, there is a noted story context of fiction. If you do not like the content, do not view the content. But there are some of us that do and we do so within our legal rights.
Just a quick headsup for GoG:
The Offline Installer seem to have a problem as some of the installation files which should be 4Gb are only 8 Mb big.
Seems to be a bug!
Thanks for the Nudie patch!

MarkoH01: Since when is it hard to circumvent DNS blocks?
It's not hard, but implementing these blocks by arguing "think of the children" sets a terrible precedent and opens the door for establishing an even more comprehensive censorship infrastructure. Most recently, there has even been talk of forcing tech companies to implement age restrictions systems on an OS level when they sell their products in Germany.

Nothing to do with the game, but we should be aware of what's to come, I guess :/

There's a MAJOR server problem with GOG at the moment that's affecting hundreds of games (some .bin parts that should be 4GB are truncated to exactly 8MB). This is the main thread for it (it goes far beyond Fallout 3 and Succubus):-
