The third generation of the insanely extensive RPG is here.

Avernum: Escape From The Pit, a vastly enhanced modern remake of one of the biggest and longest-running hard-core isometric RPG worlds that came to being with Exile in 1995, is available 50% off until Monday, for Windows and Mac on GOG.com.

Avernum: Escape From The Pit tells an epic story of a huge underground prison colony - place of exile for empire's banished citizens, outcasts, criminals, and bastards, that becomes a thriving kingdom of its own over the course of hundreds of years of existence. For a computer game, it's quite impossible to recreate what pen & paper role playing games offer: endless adventures in a land of possibilities limited only by one's imagination. That's why most computer RPGs don't even try to reach that goal. Jeff Vogel's Avernum: Escape From The Pit defies that rule, and is one of the few games in the genre that come close to the analog predecessors in terms of complexity, depth, and scale.

If you're up for the challenge of a insanely vast feature-packed world that can takes months to explore in full, dare to descend into Avernum: Escape From The Pit. The 50% off release discount lasts until Monday, January 12, at 10:59AM GMT.

Ghorpm: A remake of a remake to be more exact ;)
Exile: Escape From the Pit -> Avernum 1 -> Avernum: Escape From the Pit
I've finished the first two (years ago), I doubt if a need a third one...
Ah, thanks, I was quite confused about this.
I'm not sure if I need another remake too..

HypersomniacLive: Am I the only one that gets a "COMING SOON" with no way to actually purchase it?
Nope same here
It's a little embarrassing, guys, but something went wrong.

The game isn't there because something didn't go quite right in something going up on the site. Yes, it's vague, but that's because we're still figuring out what failed - as soon as we do that, we'll do our best to quickly fix it so that we can get the title back up ASAP.

I'll keep you all posted on further updates in this case here, and hopefully the game will be back shortly :)
A few minutes ago, the game was on the main page, now it´s gone with the wind! WTF?
I always get confused with titles like Avadon, Eschalon, Avernum, Eidolon... :P
It sounds, to my ears, like everything's the same deal.

omega64: This is a remake.
Avernum complete refers to the original series.

Don't worry. Maybe next year they can release the 4th generation of the game ;)
The game's new name is now "PRODUCT_TITLE_1420630484". XD

Space Ranger also doesn't show up when you search for it. The game page is available from the front page, but once it sinks to the bottom, you won't be able to find it at all. (I really noticed this yesterday, but thought "Oh, they'll figure it out later", but given this new game disappearing, I guess not.)

This here is a prime example of a game that (I'm quite sure) works well in Linux/Wine, but the installer/unpacking situation is making me hesitant to buy. I shall wishlist it and pick it up sometime in the future when that issue is cleared. :)

I've been looking forward to buying this title on GOG actually, as well as the upcoming part II Crystal Souls.

I've let our developers know - it could perhaps be a connected issue, so thank you for letting us know. Sorry for the inconvenience, we're hoping to fix it soon! :)

Actually, this trend of remakes (and I'm not talking about Avernum only) is something that does worry me ;)

We've found what went wrong with Space Ranger, it should be reappearing soon. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it's an issue that also caused problems with Avernum, so we're still working on that one!

As Destro said in that GNU/Linux thread, we've just all gotten back from the holidays and are looking carefully at all your arguments and suggestions - there'll be a post coming from one of us or the official GOG account today (within the next 4 hours, most likely).

[edit] We've replied, as promised :) You can read it here. Passwords have been removed, functionalities will be improved upon. :)

I assume you're referring to GNU/Linux: about half a year ago we introduced a new way of "packing up" installers for bigger games (about 30 from our catalogue from what I know) that risked crossing the 2 GB limit if not dealt with somehow and that less tech-savvy users could try unpacking manually, not using the installer, and end up with a "broken" game. This involved changing the format of certain files from not possible to unpack files to possible to unpack, but password protected files. A number of users were uncomfortable with this change and voiced their concerns, we're working on getting back to them and working out a solution that suits everybody :)
