The dark side of Pluto.

Battlezone: Combat Commander is now available 10% off until March 8, 3PM UTC.
A faithful remaster of the classic RTS/FPS hybrid, featuring remastered visuals, mod support, and the same unique gameplay that fans of the series remember fondly. Take the role of Lt. John Cooke as you return to the alternate 1930s timeline to deal with the results of an unwise series of experiments. Improving upon the original, this sequel added more weapons, vehicles and unpredictable battlefields, while expanding upon the dual nature of the gameplay.

This still isn't Tokyo Xanadu though... ><

If the game is released, why can't I download it on GoG Galaxy yet?

Should be fixed now, sorry about that. Please exit Galaxy, restart and you should be able to download your game :)
How does it compare to Battlezone 1998?
"Strategy"? None of the shots nor the video make it look like a strategy title.

If it plays anything like the original it absolutely is strategic.

Think of all the normal RTS stuff, except you've got boots on ground and some FPS mechanics. I'm not a disembodied mouse pointer however over a map, I'm walking around the map commanding where stuff gets built and deployed; and where appropriate leaping into my newly manufactured machine to take command of a small part of the battle.

^^ that's my memories of the originals anyway

mqstout: FPSs can be strategic, too, but they aren't strategy games. What's it like at all? Because it feels more "space/flight sim" to me by the media given.
I expanded my post somewhat a few mins after posting, it should be visible to you with further explanation; I hope.
Another nice release today. :)

It's a "remaster" of its sequel Battlezone II: Combat Commander (1999). Events take place after the ones covered in the original Battlezone, and it's no longer about the old superpower feud (no spoilers). Gameplay is similar, somewhat enhanced, but in the spirit of the first game.

Thanks for the info!
Um... "Original 1930s timeline?"

No... not the 1930s... nope.

The 1960/1970s, and the 1930s... not remotely alike.

There is, however, strategy involved in the Battlezone games, just not as you may think of it.

You create an army (just like in strategy games) and harvest resources (just like in strategy games). You place turrets and stationary defenses (just like in strategy games). You build new buildings to create upgrades and give you better tools and abilities (just like in strategy games).

However, you do all this from a first-person, participatory perspective. USUALLY within a tank or other armored vehicle, but occasionally from on foot.

Now, that's a game, I'd love to play in VR.

The VR "remake" (re-interpretion?) of the 1980 version, just couldn't cut the mustard.
