You'll be waiting for a long time, have you seen their roadmap?:

How's the voice acting compared to the base game?
I have to catch up on the DLC

And where are they on the roadmap? I have a backlog so can wait a few years.

According to the release page this dlc marks the beginning of season 2. So i'm guessing not on that map yet.

They've just finished the first third, the red section.

If you can wait a couple years, fine. But at this point the only significant gameplay change in the offering is an eventual increase in fleet size, and it will probably only be active in later campaigns.

If you don't want to wait, Reinforcement Pack and Broken Alliance are the only two DLC I'd say are mandatory right now. The rest add additional campaigns that take place after the first (and some can upload your fleet from an earlier campaign) so you can buy those at your leisure. But Reinforcement Pack adds some indispensable ships to the roster and Broken Alliance fleshes out the story missions in the first campaign.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the post. Really interesting for prospective new players.

One thing that the publisher is not doing well: making clear what improvements in the DLC apply to the original campaign and which do not. Especially the new units: are they for the sequel campaigns or they appear in every one?

For example:

"New war room
The Ministry of Defense relies on Galactica to lead the counter-offensive against the Cylons. Organize and command BSG-75 from a meticulous reconstruction of the famous Galactica CIC. The Season Two strategy layer has been revamped to get you straight into the fights that matter, while the new Cylon Threat mechanic measures your overall impact on the First Cylon War."

Does this means that, upons installing this DLC, interface improvements will appear in the original campaign?

This kind of questions are posed because of the DLC/sequel delivery model that Civilization IV-VI and Paradox and others are using: Before, we had complete games, then there were add-ons, sequels, minor improvements (or, sometimes, mayor improvements when the game was more mature).

Now we see that are launched half-finished, crippled by design, with the promise of future expansions/DLC to fill in the holes.

So this is what I am really asking about: Is the original game a complete one and the DLC optional, or does it feel shallow or incomplete and some DLC are strongly required?

Like I said, Reinforcement Pack and Broken Alliance are the only mandatory DLCs for the full original campaign experience. They're also the two cheapest DLCs and at the current sale price are less than $11 together.

The war room is only changed to the Galactica CIC in the Resurrection campaign for story reasons. Previous campaigns still have your war room on the Daidalos platform (What would eventually become the Ragnar Anchorage station in the pilot). Neither one is "better" in any technical sense.

All the AI and interface improvements have been included for free in the patches.

BSG:D was a mediocre game at launch, and over the last year some heroic patches and DLC have taken it to good then excellent. It would have been great if it had this level of polish at launch, but whaddya gonna do? These DLC haven't been skin packs or loot boxes, they've all been substantial expansions.

Thanks for the explanation. I am sure that it will help people reading this thread. Paid lots of attention to the game at launch. Really wanted to like the game but the reviews were not that great. With the improvements that you mention, it might well deserve a good chance.
