Hm, game was released yesterday and the announcement comes today. When you take in account too that there is no weekend sale, then something is clearly wrong in the state of GOG. Smells like something big lurks around the corner.

Nah, given that the offline installer bad been absent for most of yesterday and only was made available for download earlier today it probably was just a problem with packaging up the game files or something along those lines.

So, I just bought it, but I am considering a refund. Am I right that there is no way to skip videos? Not even previously seen ones?

Yesterday was a holiday in Poland so I wouldn't read too much into the delay on the announcement.

There are 'checkpoints' so you can skip ahead to certain moments in the story when you unlock them. But no, it doesn't appear that you can skip scenes. I wouldn't mind a skip scene feature for previously seen ones at least. And additional subtitles/closed captioning.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I saw the checkpoints. It seems like they let you pick which one you want to use, which is good, but in this type of game I want to experiment a lot, since choices are all there is, and wasting minutes everytime is too high a price.

I'll wait a bit more, just in the hope of someone finding a well hidden way to skip videos (or maybe an announcement from the devs about the feature), but otherwise I am refunding this. It's just too annoying to put up with it. I will say though that the game is suitably over the top early on, so it's probably going to be a good laugh if they took care of that.

not really an excuse, but some much more recent fmv (and not fmv) games don't let you skip scenes either (late shift, for instance), so it's a bit more acceptable from something this old, plus even a second playthrough will (or should) have mostly new scenes. I don't replay games but check alternate choices in fmvs if I can and even late shift was just about tolerable the second time around, and even with scene skip I wouldn't have bothered to unlock 7(?) endings.

I love these FMV games. It takes me back to the 90's when these kind of video games were very popular. FMV games had their little corner on the Sega CD, Atari Jaguar, 3D0 or the PC. When it comes to style, there is nothing written. I seem to remember that there was an interactive film with Christopher Lloyd and Billy Warlock where the audience decided what happened in the plot by voting. Or the controversial Night Trap, which featured actress Dana Plato (from the TV series Diff'rent Strokes) in its cast. All in all, a great entry for American Hero in 2021, 25 years after its cancellation. Thanks to Ziggurat Interactive and developer Empty Clip Studios for the work to revive it. On the wish list for now.

Yes, that is correct. In 2015-2018 a remake of Night Trap* was released with some improvements on PC DVD-ROM. It is DRM-Free.

I think that's truly terrible. I don't even like it when games don't allow me to skip individual lines, if they have a lot of dialogues (RPGs and point-and-click adventures come to mind), but in a game where it's all choices and videos? Pure pain.

This is also one of those games with LOTS of mini-choices where if you get it wrong you die, so it's just unbearable to me. I tried one path. The first choice you get after you start it can be lethal, the second choice is a repeat of the first one (more or less), but you can't be 100% sure without trying (and also, if you like exploring options, you might be tempted to pick the one which is more obviously dangerous, just to see if there are differences), and there is another choice right after, which is rather bizarre (as in, you can't really tell without trying which one would be good, maybe both are good, who knows).

This without counting the possible third choice of not picking a choice (which I have yet to check for any of these). Anytime I want to try again, it's at least one minute if I go back to the menu and from there to the checkpoint to skip the death sequence and restart the unskippable video, that's way too much downtime.

P.S.

By the way, the game is old, but they completely re-built the logic, no? I mean, I doubt this is emulating an Atari Jaguar, I think they just didn't see the feature as worthwhile to add. I can't imagine another reason as to why there isn't at least a "skip to the next choice" option, if not a skip for the individual videos.
