Anime-BlackWolf: Yeah, consoles or PC emulation with emulators and roms is a known alternative, but a "real" PC port would be much nicer. There IS a market for these games here, too...
avatar
ReynardFox: I'd settle for competent, licensed emulation...
Me too. But the problem is: who will invest time and money to make another one? THAT is the problem...

MAME is nice (I used it too), but I have neither money nor place to afford the actual arcade modules to make MAME use for these games alone "100% legal".

So until the unseen future I have no choice but to get these ones, until better ones arrive.

Senteria: Out of curiousity sake, I doubt any of them are, but can any of them be played against friends online? Or is it just couch co-op like the good ol days.

inox: Both SHOCK TROOPERS: 2ND SQUAD and GAROU: MARK OF THE WOLVES have GOG Galaxy implementation that includes multiplayer ;)

(I assume You are asking only about titles that have been released today)
Well it gives me some ammo to pester the stream team to do play some fighting games among each other. :D

ReynardFox: more respectful and authentic in MAME,
Because 99.9% of the internet don't have a clue as to what MEME is and what it does.

They just want a program that they can run and play in this case.

No offense intended.

ReynardFox: Oh. More butchered Neo-Geo ports. Great.

It actually infuriates me that I have to turn down all the SNK releases on GOG, but when I can get an experience that is orders of magnitude better, more respectful and authentic in MAME, why the hell should I pay money for these horribly scaled, horribly unoptimized, graphically tampered with, inferior versions?
So you own the original physical ROMs from arcade, or why are do you feel entitled to play those games in MAME?

I mean, I love the old arcades, I absolutely love the MAME project, and their effort to preserve this piece of human history, but if I don't own the game already by some other means, I find buying bad official conversion as an gray-zone "legalization" (warning, this is by no means official way endorsed by lawyers) of playing the ROM-rip in MAME.

Yeah, and definitely I would love to see these official conversions in top quality, then again the current HW is quite against it (you can't reliably simulate 50Hz CRT on 60+Hz LCD, 100Hz LCD can get somewhat close in smoothness, but colors and geometry will make it feel different anyway). So it's not like i expect them to be pixel perfect, but sadly quite often the MAME is really doing better job.
Why screenshots from all these games look like they are not even trying to get the emulation right? Like at least pixel perfect scaling. Or if not that, at least some filtering to hide the ugly malformed pixels.

DotEMU ports right?

No thanks.

ped7g: snip.
I admit on PC I only have ROMS obtained from the internet, but I just see no reason to go legit when the people releasing the games have shown no respect for them with these half-assed, hack job emulations. When people do the work better in their own time for free, the idea of giving someone like DotEmu money makes me sick.

Also, buying these games gives me no security that better dumps, additional necessary chips etc won't be released and make my purchases redundant, and rom dumps in MAME change all the time. On top of this, by supporting shoddy ports, I am encouraging them.

Outside of PC, I've been paying for Neo-Geo releases on Switch, where the emulation is done by Hamster, a company who actually respect the work that SNK put in to these games.

That's because your first impression is exactly the case.

sweet release, you finally got the rest up!, now it would be sick if sega got there head out of the trash and allowed the mega drive stuff on steam to come here.
How good of a game is the turf masters? I could really use a fun golf game. It does look like the one I used to play in the arcade. I remember it as fun. Hmmm....

Also, it seems as if the games do not come with manuals. Will they work with kb+m? Is there any guidance as to how to play?

These releases use an older version of MAME.

No, they use a custom emulator, using MAME in a paid product goes against MAME's TOS and it's never licensed out for such things. Also, even an archaic version of MAME would do a better job than DotEmu have.

You're obviously behind since MAME changed its license. What would MAMEDev do about it, anyway? Sue SNK for emulating their own shit? HURRRR... :B Then SNK turns around and asks MAMEDev to remove support for everything that belongs to SNK.

what are these games?

There's still no MAME in DotEmu's releases, the audio quality doesn't match and I can't even make MAME output visuals as bad or perform as sluggish as these releases, nor does MAME let you chop out game menus and replace them with shitty mobile phone game graphics. It HAS to be a custom job.
