Klumpen0815: Third question:
Do such questions have to be asked openly in official boards where censors can read them?

"Man sollte keine schlafenden Hunde wecken!"
is the correct phrase we'd use for this...
*shrug* I'm pretty sure this may have occurred to GOG when they were implementing these new "features". Ahem.

IAmSinistar: It will debut as "regional validation", to make sure the game you are playing is allowed in your country. After all, that's better then not selling the game at all, right? And once that door is opened...
You know its really ominious that after every great news comes a very negative news. Its kind of becoming a gog tradition now.
Apropos of nothing, intrigued by the nature of the software, I started investigating about tunnelbear.

Frag me sideways if this isn't the most AWESOME piece of promotional artwork to ever be made.
Thanks GOG. I'm glad you bring more "good news" to gamers. :)
I remember the time, when GOG sold Good Old Games... without compromises.

The GoGbear should really have been replaced with Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth by now.

Sadly true, at least when it comes to site news. They were on a roll with new publishers and games and things were looking really sunny. But it does seem that any time they announce a change to GOG itself, it comes with unwanted side effects that aren't even printed in tiny text on the bottle.

Dear GOG,

if regional locks are the price for introducing a German version of your site, then I would modestly recommend to take that part of your site and throw it into the garbage can. It's not neccessary anyway. 90% of us Germans understand English well enough to not have any problems with an English site.

Thank you!
We've updated the "Herzlich Wilkommen" post with information about the locked games.

Update text:

"Two games from our catalog had to be made unavailable in Germany: Commandos Ammo Pack and Commandos 2+3. Offering or promoting these games is considered a serious criminal offence according to German law, and we have to abide by this law to avoid the risk of serious legal action taken against GOG.com and GOG.com employees. Rest assured that if you've already bought a game - nothing will retroactively disappear from your shelves."

Leroux: Does the retail version include English voiceovers?
Yes, it's the original English version, since Max Payne 1 was never localized. Max Payne 2 is only available in German, but at least it's a really well made translation.
As a bonus, both titles come completely without copy protection.

Offering or promoting these games IN GERMANY is considered a serious criminal offence...

Ciris:
Now the next question would be: Wasn't it a criminal offence before? Why did GOG act on it only now? Is this another case of "this wasn't a problem before, but now that we're offering a cool new service, it comes at a price"?

Thank you for the info.

The temporary disappearance of Mortal Kombat 1+2+3 was a mistake, then?
