arrjayjee: Thanks for the suggestions guys! I actually found a really simple roguelike called The Enchanted Cave 2. I do have TOME as well but it was a bit heavier and more in-depth than what I was after today for a chill out session.

And I'm downloading ADOM as we speak. I do like the platformer rogue-likes like Risk of Rain and Rogue Legacy, but I was after something more traditional and light today.

You know what would be great, though? A 3D Dark Souls-esque rogue-like. 3D combat and vertical exploration and all that.

JudasIscariot: Harebrained Schemes is making something like this :) Google "Harebrained Schemes Necropolis" :)
Oh I remember that one, I saw Force Gaming play the game earlier this year:

edit: Ugh, sorry, I don't there is a Linux version after all.

If you're up for a bizarre roguelike, there is Elona.

It takes a bit of knowledge and patience to learn to survive, but I enjoyed exploring the many jobs, skills quests, and quirks.

Elona is pretty cool, quite addictive.
I'm not sure if it's the kind of thing you're looking for, but Eldritch kept me entertained for a while. It's some sort of a roguelike call of cthulhu first person shooter stealth-minecraft. (Maybe not so much minecraft, just voxels.)

DRM-free for Linux at the humble store at least.

JudasIscariot: Get a light source with a wider radius, if possible :) Summertime Phial usually works well enough.
I tend to play Archmage (aka easymode) because I'm bad at the fundamental concept of roguelikes - never take a single step unprepared. So I spam Arcane Eye and rank 5 Illuminate, giving me an effective light/sight radius of 13 and above. It's the sequential turn thing of step-around-a-corner-and-enjoy-your-death-screen that gets me, or the occasional "I'm lazy, let's hit z and reroll"

Light radius isn't my problem. ToME (as roguelikes should be) is an asshole. That's the problem ^_^
