Real Myst will be leaving the GOG.com catalog at the end of the Summer Sale (18th of June). Until then, we’ve added a discount of 70% off the game.

Cyan Worlds feel Real Myst does not accurately represent the vision of the game, with the Masterpiece Edition being the superior version. With this in mind, the decision to remove Real Myst was made.

We’re sad to see it leave, but be sure not to Myst this opportunity to add Real Myst to your GOG.com library.

Thank you GOG and Cyan for the timely announcement and the discount, for all the collectors out there. Personally, I've never played any of the Myst games, therefore I don't have nostalgia or preference for any of the versions.

...do you hear that? What is that...? It sounds like a mob of fanboys gabbing their forks, because yet another old game is being removed from GOG for a ?sub-standard? remaster. :P

Honestly I don't care, Cyan are right RealMyst Masterpiece is better in every way to original RM, but why not include it as an extra download for the masterpiece edition?

I already own it, and considering the circumstances, I do understand entirely.
There was still something breathtaking about my first time in RealMyst.

Also with the newly successful Kickstarter the Myst series is going to be re-released as a remasters for it's 25th anniversary.

That's some weird reasoning. It isn't requiring any more updates, right? So there shouldn't be any ongoing work on their end except for the occasional deposit to their checking account. 4.5 stars, and I think I remember the community being pretty excited at the time when it showed up here.

As Crosmando suggested, makes perfect sense - from where I'm sitting, anyway - to turn it into a free add-on to the Masterpiece edition.

So, gOg, was that option discussed?

I also agree with Crosmando and HereForTheBeer. They should just make RealMyst a free addon to RealMyst Masterpiece. Beamdog did this with their remasters of Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape. Why can't Cyan do this as well? I believe in preserving old titles regardless of quality. Whether it's because the new version doesn't work right on your PC or because you like to collect and preserve video gaming history, having more choices is always a good thing.

The reason is one is 6$ with 4.5 rating from 1230 votes while the other is 18$ with 4.0 rating from only 103 votes. They want people to buy the "superior version".

EDIT: I also think it would be nice to add the "classic Real Myst" as a goodie to the masterpiece edition. It's already in GOG's servers anyway.
