Just curious about how this works as I've been in the forums here for some six years with over 600 replies and I'm still a "new user"?

Change your description.
It doesn't change by itself.

Changing your "Title" in your Settings tab will allow you to remove that "New User" title.

Since you've never touched it, it remained like that since you joined.

So far, the most "representative form or ranks" are reputation / stars, but since they work on a faulty system, they are not a reliable way to ascertain the level/rank of users in these forums.

It's merely aesthetic so far, don't worry about it.

As Nagrarock said, you can change it to whatever you like (as long as whatever you like is no more than 16 characters). Just go to the top of any forum page (other than the main Community page) and click 'My Settings' in the upper right part of the screen, then go to town. :)

Interesting; not really worth even the minimal effort to change it. :) Thanks all; mystery solved.

Too much effort? Really? So you wanna be a New User forever?
With just a little bit of effort you can change your title, you can even become a delicious Leberkaas-Semmel!!!!

So, creating a question thread about it is not too much effort, but clicking a link and typing something is? : ]

Replace "did" with "will" and you've got it.
