I would hope that if they come to an arrangement, what was there from the Quake engine (1998) would be released too. Would be very interesting to see how far they were in development before discarding engines and starting over.

Not really surprising considering they did the same with that Bulletstorm re-release. I think I've heard a rumor that the company was hemorrhaging funds after some of their latest disasters. Honestly wouldn't be too heart broken to see the end of the studio after what they've done to the Duke and Aliens IPs.

That's... pretty good news, actually! About as good as can be expected. At least all that stuff is going to be released in some form or another, rather than just rotting away on some hard drive. I can't blame Gearbox for milking the fans, they paid for the IP after all. Right now I'm most intrigued about the wildly conflicting assessments re: how much of the game is actually done. Schreiber says 90% done, 14-16 hours of gameplay, Randy says 9% done and sticks with the "there are only little vignettes/snippets, incomplete pieces of stuff" version of the story.

Who is telling the truth?

Is Randy deliberately underselling the 2001 build in order to not look like an ass when it comes out? I gotta say, it's an odd way to pitch your upcoming Duke Collection when you describe what is arguably your main selling point with "you will be disappointed".

And will it even come out on gog?

Who cares we (Duke fans) will buy it again even for a slight chance of having something new or in our case old 2001 edition. For some reason i think we'll got Duke Collection with all games in one package with a promise of "free Duke Nukem 2001 edition bonus coming soon" for all who pre-order Deluxe Edition only for $69.99 and register a special code on Gearbox website.
I still buy it, because i'm that desperate, i want to revive my old memories no matter what. Many died waiting for that game.

I remember following this rumor on Duke4.net forums, and it turned out to be false, as the guy posting said he would post them, but he never did. There are also rumors, by Frederick Schreiber said the build isn't even 80% complete, but rather like 10% complete. Either way, if they ever realese them, the best thing for a new Duke Nukem game, would be to create a new one, and let the past be the past. If anyone wants to play DNF 2001, there is an amazing mod, made by Duke fans called Duke Nukem Forever 2013.

Soo... according to The Hacker Known As 4chan Duke Forever 2001 has leaked and will be put online in June. Including the source code and the level editor. W00T

I'll believe it when I see it, but still... all aboard the hype train!!!!!! At the very least it should envigorate the ever-popular debate whether Duke Nukem is still appropriate in Today's Climate™.

Bless whoever the saint was who was hacked into Randy's personal files and liberated the source code for us, he will probably be scarred for life because of having to search through 10,000 terabytes of child porn on Randy's harddrives to find it.
