Cyraxpt: i would rather save those 30$ for a future upgrade on the harddrive
You do know that RAM is 100+ times faster than an SSD, right? You may need absurd amounts of it to properly abuse it as a RAM drive, but it does offer very interesting possibilities.
DIMMDrive isn't the only RAM Drive software, but it did gain fame due to proper targeting. You can also try ImDisk, though I haven't used it yet to be able to comment on it properly.

Considering the guy you're responding to only apparently has 6GB RAM using even a small portion of it as a RAM-drive would be a waste. And even then, you couldn't fit most even remotely-modern games there anyways.

2GB for JA2. 4GB for system. What else do you need? ;)

But mostly as an education for what RAM Drive is, and why the option of saving $30 for a new HDD may not be the best one, especially if you want speed and not storage.

I understand that but like i said, considering the crazy amount of space that games take nowadays and i won't be upgrading more than 8GB it would be pointless in my case.
Besides, like i said, i doesn't even bother most of loading times, TW:S2 did because it was unbearable and i wasn't the only one complaining about it back then (i don't even know if they fix it), considering that i'm using a 5400RPM harddrive i guess a upgrade would be benefic for the system.

Windows and Linux (and probably Mac as well, not sure) do allow you to mount a partition as a directory, so part of the game is on one partition, part of the game is on another. It does take a bit more fiddling, but it may be possible to have some textures on a RAM Drive and the scripts on the mechanical one, though each time you reset the RAM Drive you'd need to copy the files to it again.

More or less an exercise in absurdity, or an answer to the "What on earth are you going to do with 32GB of RAM????" question ;)
You likely won't have a problem mixing RAM sizes as most laptop MBs support mixed sizes these days with only two slots.
