Summer is a great time for vacations and trips to the pool, but for some people, summer means it’s time to hop in the car, head to the track, and do some racing!

If you are a fan of high speeds and tight corners but don’t want to put your car through the strenuous act of actually racing it, then racing games are a great way to feed the adrenaline junkie inside of you. Also, it is generally frowned upon to blow up the other racers, but in video games, that is a totally acceptable thing to do!

At GOG.COM, we have some awesome new racing games being added to the platform, as well as some fan-favorites that we wanted to highlight today to help celebrate these titles reaching the finish line.

Looking for a new racing game, but don’t know where to start? Maybe one of these games will check all of your boxes.

Street Racer

Street Racer is a classic racing title from the 90s that features kart racing mechanics that were extremely popular at the time. Pick one of the unique characters, snag power-ups, and drift your way to the finish line!

GRIP

When you think of racing, you typically think of a flat track, right? Well, in GRIP, your car can go on the walls and ceilings and you’ll need to master that mechanic if you hope to cross the finish line first! And if you can’t beat them outright, just blast them away with fun weapons in order to take the lead.

Urban Trial Freestyle

Are you more interested in two-wheel vehicles? Prefer precision over speed? Urban Trial Freestyle might be for you! You’ll need to customize your bike with parts if you hope to beat all of this game’s courses as you drive, jump, and backflip your way through platforming-like levels.

Urban Trial Playground

Another installment in the Urban Trial series, this one takes players from the dark city of Freestyle and places them in sunny California. In this one, you’ll again need to master physics to get through the courses, and customizing your bike will be necessary if you want to find the perfect lines!

Mashed

Pure racing games are great, but if you find yourself needing more, why not throw some guns into the mix? In Mashed, you can do just that across 13 different environments. So lock, load, and strap in!

And here are some cool racing games already present in our catalog:

STAR WARS Episode I: Racer

Prefer your racing games a little more… otherworldly? Star]https://www.gog.com/game/star_wars_episode_i_racer">Star Wars Episode 1: Racer lets you pilot a podracer across many different iconic landscapes from the Star Wars universe. There are over 20 tracks and podracers to choose from, so you’ll have plenty of options as you go for the gold.

Driver: Parallel Lines

If racing isn’t for you, but you are still looking to drive a variety of cars at high speed, Driver]https://www.gog.com/game/driver_parallel_lines">Driver: Parallel Lines is definitely worth checking out. With over 80 customizable cars, this open-world driving game lets you explore New York City as you wheel and shoot your way through a variety of missions.

So, there you have it, a quick look at some of the new racing titles coming to GOG.COM, as well as a highlight for some of the games already available (Star Wars Episode I: Racer and Driver: Parallel Lines)!

If you have been looking for a racing game to get the blood pumping, any of these titles should help with that!

What do you think? What are some of your favorite racing games? Plan on checking any of these out? Let us know down in the comments!
On my all-time best and favorites :
Colin McRae Rally 2.0
Wipeout 2097
Wip3out
Driver
Carmageddon
Mario Kart 8 [not PC, I know, but it deserves to be on the list]
Re-Volt
Rally Trophy

Happy to see this releases and with good discounts !
Mashed sounds fun, and Grip interesting :D

Great, more racing games is something always to cheer.
Hello again!

I am still on the fence about "Grip"...

Does anyone have experience with running "Grip" on Intel UHD 620 onboard graphics?

I have not tried any game powered by Unreal Engine 4 on my current notebook, yet.

And what options can be changed in the game's graphics settings in order to reduce the load on the system?

Thank you for your help!

Kind regards,

Does anyone remember FUEL? GOG needs to get that racing game!

trusteft: Playing computer games since the early 1980s. The vast majority, VAST, were being played with keyboard. Including racing. Rarely you would find one owning an analog joystick for racing games as there was very limited support for them in such games.

timppu: Whaaaat? I have been PC gaming since the early 90s (before that I had a Commodore Amiga A500), and there was a wide support for analog joysticks in PC racing games, as well as flight simulators, space combat games (Wing Commander 1-2, X-Wing) etc.
Yeah, computer games in the 1980s were frequently played with joysticks, and it wasn't that common to even have the option of keyboard control. Talking about hardware like C64/Amiga/Atari/etc. that could actually play decent games at the time. Typically 8-way digital joysticks with one button, mind you, but still. Don't believe me, try running an emulator and see for yourself. Although PC gaming specifically was largely a joke until the late 80s, so who knows what sort of caveman-like input methods any poor PC souls were forced to endure back then. ;)

I do. It's on my list of 3 racing games I'd like here. I've secured my PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, so at least I can still play it.

Yeah I tend to separate the Amiga/Commodore64 digital on/off joysticks from what was happening with PC (and e.g. Apple IIc etc.) joysticks. On the former, joysticks tended do be kind of digital "arcade sticks" which were more useful for high-speed action games, while PCs had analog joysticks more suitable for flight simulators, racing games etc.

Anyway, PCs did have those analog joysticks already in the 80s and 90s, and at least in the early 90s the analog joysticks were widely supported in flight simulators, 3D space combat games and racing games. I recall playing the original Need For Speed 1 game with my analog stick a lot, and later games like Grand Prix Legends, Ubisoft's Formula One game (I don't recall the exact name, but it was the first non-arcade racing simulation which I recall having 3Dfx Voodoo card support) etc.

I always used an analog joystick with most PC racing games.

I think this was my first PC joystick (CH Flightstick), or at least one of the very firsts, which I used for many years:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143733780001?hash=item2177336e21:g:kzoAAOSwNqBfXOvt

Later I had (and actually still have, they still work fine!) e.g.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_SideWinder#3D_Pro

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_SideWinder#Precision_2

I still have the MS SideWinder 3D Pro and the Precision 2, and they both still seem to work fine. Naturally I can use 3D Pro only on my old retro-gaming PC which has a suitable port on a sound card for it, but Precision 2 is an USB joystick.

The even older PC analog joysticks, before my PC gaming time, were CH Producs Mach 2 etc.
I'm not going to repeat myself.

Digital joysticks. Not analog. And since you mentioned home computers (not ibm compatibles), they didn't even support analog joysticks in general.

IBM compatible computers, all of them, supported keyboard. No matter what genre. Home computers (Atari, Amiga etc) many times did not support keyboard controls at all, instead they had support only for digital joysticks.

How long do we have till they go up to full price?

EDIT: NVM, I found it, about 10 more days. Thanks.

I agree with all of the people asking for FUEL to come to this is site. It's a fantastic game that doesn't use any licensed cars or music so it should be really easy to get. Also I believe GRID used to be on this site so Codemasters is clearly open to their games being available here. A release here it would also save if from the awful DRM the DVD version has. Any crack for it just gets detected as malware so yeah, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. That game is AMAZING.

And to the people who are against having gamepad support: I genuinely don't understand what the issue is with people having options to control games. In fact I could list a lot of reasons why gamepads can be better than keyboard/mouse in certain situations but I'd end up typing out in essay when what I really want is FUEL to come here. Regardless, I'm just glad to see more racing games here.

Good, because you claim that PC racing games had "very limited support" for analog joysticks was very odd indeed, at least if by that you meant that not many PC racing games supported them. Practically all of them did, except maybe for some Buggy Boy/Mario Kart-clone kind of arcade racers.

I wouldn't want you to keep repeating it.
Well, to be honest, I have never played any of these newly added games nor am I even that familiar with any of them, but I too am glad that they are here and even more so considering the fact that these are racing games, with some arcade elements (if I'm not mistaken), which, I think, aren't that much of a common sight anymore over the last few years or so, and even much less of a common sight around here, sadly I might add. But alas, here's a few more eh?

Anyway, some of my favourite racing games (which all have arcade elements too, and sadly are not digitally available here nor anywhere else I think) are:
- Wreckin Crew: Drive Dangerously [1998]
- S.C.A.R.S. [1998]
- Micro Maniacs [2000]
- Speed Freaks [1999]
- Blur [2010]
- Kart Race (also known as 카트 레이스, I think) [1996]

Wreckin Crew is quite similar to Street Racer, so much so that when I first saw that Street Racer was here I immediately thought that was Wreckin Crew instead eheh, what a shame that wasn't the case. T-T
