What was your favorite video game that you played in the 1990s, and what platform did you play it on?
Most of the stuff I played in the 90s was stuff made in the 80s. :P

If you had to pin me down to one game made in the 90s that I played A LOT in the 90s, I'd have to say Diablo, though honestly I spent virtually that entire decade drunk.

Since no question was asked in TinyE's post, I will ask one.

When starting a new game, if the game asks you to choose the gender of your character, how do you make that decision? (I pretty much always choose female, unless there happens to be a third option, which I will sometimes choose if it is presented to me.)

Edit (after topic has reached 4 pages): What is so bad about this post that it had to be "low rated"? I really don't understand the userbase on this site sometimes.

I only choose to play as a woman when there's some sexy character model (like the Malkavian in Vampire the masquerade: Bloodlines), or when I know there's some really good content for female characters (like the Anomen romance in Baldur's Gate 2). Otherwise I play as a man, because it's a men's world.

Have you ever felt disgust about a video game? To the point that you stopped playing?

No. Not even close. Movies - yes. Natural Born Killers. But never games.

What's your favourite RTS setting? Medieval, fantasy, sci fi... etc. Why? If you dont play RTSs please let someone else answer.

What was the first ARPG you ever played?
I'll let yours stand. I'll ask mine later. Simultaneous posting. Xd

I love middle ages and fantasy like Warcraft but also more modern takes like Red Alert. It happens to me that when I play a setting for a long time I start longing to play the opposite one, like trying to compensate. So if I play middle ages for a long time I start wanting to play something modern or futuristic afterwards.
So one of the games that fulfilled both is Empire Earth. I love making plans and think about what strategy and tactics to use for each situation, predicting and realizing what works in accomplishing the objective.

...and let´s not forget my unconditional love for sci-fi, and when we talk sci-fi, we talk space, and when we talk space we talk about no other than the best space RTS ever to grace the history of gaming............Homeworld.

Actually, yes I think I like almost all settings, it happens the same to me with genres too, so :D kind of difficult to pick.

Question. What game made you think it marked a before and an after?...........kinda like the Jurassic Park movie for dinosaurs.

Wing Commander immediately came to mind as I read the question, so I'll go with that one. Really was a revelation at the time, for me anyway. Probably cemented my love for this damn hobby of ours.

Q: Is there someone who helped get you hooked on PC gaming, or electronic gaming in general if PC games came much later?

misteryo: What was the first ARPG you ever played?
(Answering because this question seems to have fallen through the cracks.)

It really depends on what counts. The way I like to define RPGs, the answer would be that I have never played one, because no such games exist. Well, maybe you could count Magic of Scheherezade, which I *have* played, as one. (That game has both action combat and turn-based RPG-style combat.)

As for games others might consider in this category, one could argue for games like Zelda 2 (which I played before Zelda 1, and was one of my first two NES cartridges), Crystalis, or Final Fantasy Adventure; all are excellent games (though note that Crystalis *requires* extra power leveling to proceed; if you don't, you will run into a boss that you can't hurt).

Anyway, I won't add another question here; refer to the previous post's question instead.

HereForTheBeer: Q: Is there someone who helped get you hooked on PC gaming, or electronic gaming in general if PC games came much later?
Nope, I seem to be "genetically predisposed" to gaming as I've been drawn to games since I was four years old. It began with an old Atari system, continuted with a PC 286 and then it were PCs all the way. There was something in pc games that appealed to me more than other types of games. I was intrigued by all the possibilities, even if there weren't so many of them in early games.

My question: Do you have a gaming ritual? Please describe it! It may be a certain time in the day, with certain food or beverages ,a certain feeling that you want to create...

Charon121: My question: Do you have a gaming ritual? Please describe it! It may be a certain time in the day, with certain food or beverages ,a certain feeling that you want to create...
Not really. However, I used to have a thing where, each summer, I would play through a bunch of early WRPGs. (I'm thinking things like Ultima 1-6, Wizardry 1-5 (but not 3), Might and Magic 2-5, Bard's Tale 1-3; games like Ultima 7 and Baldur's Gate are too modern for this).

One other thing: I used to use the name Sarisa when naming my character in single character games.

When you start a new game, if the game asks you to name your character or characters, how do you decide on a name?

I have a limited set of names I use, I usually go with "Darren", or sometimes with Morolf, if such silliness doesn't become too intrusive. In other cases I try to find something that fits the setting (e.g. in Age of Decadence I made characters with Roman names like Marcus, Publius, Gaius etc.; in Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale I try to go with something fantasy-sounding like "Alanna Silvershield" and the like).

Do you enjoy playing evil in games? Why or why not?

morolf: Do you enjoy playing evil in games? Why or why not?
I can enjoy it when the game "forces" me to be a bad or at least shady character (like in Lucius, GTA or Blood). If the game offers choices (like i.e. most Bioware games) I always end up as the good guy (or gal). I sometimes try to play "evil" in games like this but always end up being bored and quitting. The problem is that evil most of the time is leading to playing an insane psychopathic mass murderer - which just doesn't feel very rewarding for me. I wish games would offer some more subtle evil gameplay - like using subterfuge and deception to appear as the great hero and saviour while secretly building your world domination or something like that.

What was the least fun game you still slogged through to the end? What kept you playing it?

toxicTom: What was the least fun game you still slogged through to the end? What kept you playing it?
The Old City: Leviathon. Usually, I have no patience for games I am not enjoying, and I'm not OCD in the least, so I never finish those games. Leviathon was the exception - partly because it is so short, partly because it was so absurdly pretentious I could hardly believe it. So I kept going in a kind of a trance, continually amazed by the pretentiousness of the narration. And then thankfully it was over.

What is your favorite innovation in the ARPG genre? And did it become a standard feature after it was introduced? Or did it not catch on, and can only be found in the one game that introduced it?
