Well, i have been experiencing some problems with 7 already (mostly of security nature). And i would like to throw away a couple of questions concerning 10, if i were allowed, please... So, here i come!

1) Accepting the update OVERWRITES 7 and sits on top of them, or does the usual format first installation second?

2) Are windows 10 safe(r) than previous ones?

3) Do they already have some updates flying around, like service pack etc?

4) How well do good old games run on them, in comparison with XP, 7 and 8??

Thanks in advance and sorry for being a burden.

1) If you chose the free upgrade option, it overwrites your win7/8/8.1.

2) Depends how you look at it. On Win10, MS collects all sorts of info about you by default. You can opt out of some of that but not all and all of them are on by default so you have to go disable them manually. In general, biggest security issue resides between monitor and the chair and that won't change.

3) I'm sure there are updates already but win10 has only been officially out for 6 days so Service Packs are long ways away.

4) Varies from game to game and system to system. Some work like before, some work better, some need fidling and some don't work at all. Check the game card to see if GOG had it working and game specific forum to see if users have any issues with specific game.

Thanks, rocket executive Petrell! Much appreciated! Well, i might wait a little bit more, then, before upgrading, for a couple of service packs to appear, first! ^_^

- No classic windows interface that still is available in win7

- No privacy, and telemetry is all around

- Forced auto-updates for everything

- Windows as a service meaning microsoft can change anything at anytime

If this doesn't bother you then go ahead and upgrade

I don't accept any of the changes microsoft made so i will remain with win7 until 2020 and from there to 2023 will use win81
After 2023 will see...

I don't follow news so closely, but what do you mean by that exactly?

Personally, I am not on Win10, and not planning to get it unless it will be completely unavoidable. With Win 8 being so atrociously bad, and with all the bad rumors about Win10, I might consider switching to Linux if OS upgrade will be necessary.

Microsoft wants to kill the classic desktop
They tried with win8 and continue doing so with win10
The true last windows interface is Win7

Yes win8 is bad, but at least its still a windows version meaning its not a "service" and you have control over the updates hence you have control over your own computer which is something you no longer have if you use win10

Unfortunately at the present I don't see Linux as an alternative, at least for windows users like myself, cause if it was I would had switch already

I think he means no fancy looking tiles. I'm using classic myself.

That doesn't look that bad (and I guess you are using custom colors etc.). I thought it is as bad as getting rid of "Start" button forever and "promoting" smartphone interface even more :)

You are aware that it's possible to both stop the automatic updates, and selectively choose which ones to install, right? Not as easy as pressing one button, but the option is still there, for those that require it. And I do not mean KB3073930, which is a very specific troubleshooting tool. I mean options that are built in on Windows and available for over 2 years, which still work with Win10.

Well, I'm still on Win7 and I'd rather switch entirely to Linux than upgrade to 10 ; )
To be honest I've found this style on deviantart, I think that's the one I'm using.

1) Neither. If you upgrade then Windows 10 will clean-install itself, renames the old Windows installation to "Windows.old" and imports your settings from the old installation.

2) Windows 10 is as safe as Windows 8.1

3) There are some small patches, no large ones yet.

4) Everything that works on Windows 8 works on Windows 10 as a rule of thumb.

Windows 10 could have been named "Windows 8.5", don't worry so much about the name. Upgrading is easy and you can revert to your old installation by pressing a button - because Windows 10 doesn't install over or wipe your old installation, it just moves it.
