The best bet in my case would be an online shooter, Team Fortress 2.

It is risky though. Sometimes I could keep playing it for hours and hours, sometimes I stop playing it in disgust right away, for example when I see there are lots of those cheater bots around ruining the gameplay, or there are some of those whiny idiots complaining because I actually play the games' objectives and they try to kick me out of the game due to that. For them the game is apparently some kind of social media to meet their online friends, while I join TO PLAY THE DAMN GAME.

For a single-player game (that I haven't played already)... dunno, maybe some big RPG to spend time with. I guess any The Witcher game would be ok, I should start with the first one.
You mentioned cRPGs - I can throroughly recommend Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2. If you haven't played them already.

The recent offering on GOG, XCOM 2 is the best game in its genre.

Both suggestions are incredible time sinks.

francksteel: Heroes of Might and Magic 4 (yes, I know some hate it, but it's my favourite - played 2,3,4,5, and just a bit of 6)
Always feels nice when I see someone else say this :D
I'd pick Morrowind. It's in my top 5 of all time and you can play it for hundreds of hours if you want. That world is just so well crafted, deep and interesting. Skyrim is a good game too, but it doesn't have that endless depth that Morrowind does IMO.
Second this.

For me number one has to be HOMM3. Then Civ4. Then Crusader Kings 2 (not on gog sorry - base game is free on Steam) Those three games have taken up the majority of my graphical game-playing life - I also played MUDs back in the day which funnily enough were an even worse time-sink.

edit: Morrowind would be 4th for me actually as many people have mentioned it. Great game. Maybe the most immersive of the Elder Scrolls series although I still like Daggerfall - protip, if you buy any Bethesda game you get Daggerfall for free (or you can get Daggerfall for free without buying anything whatsoever as Bethesda released it for free anyway):

Great game if you are not too young and have the patience for esoteric DOS controls.

Basically any top-tier game with replayability. Which is not so many.

Deus Ex GOTY

Plague, corrupted governments in a dystopian future. Fits the bill pretty well if you ask me.
Neverwinter Nights 1 and all of its expansions. That game is easily in my top 10. It has an engaging story, great characters and still manages to immerse me. Definitely one of Bioware's greatest work. It saddens me what they have become today.

Heroes of Might and Magic Ⅳ is the best in the series.
I played 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and a little bit of 7.

I don't know if I would put it in my top 5, but your post gave me the will to replay Daggerfall (I hope there exists now some more patches).
I never feeled the same pleasure in the next TES to have a whole Daedric armor
Uru complete chronicles. If you explore everywhere, it'll take a lot longer than 2 weeks to finish. Unless you play it 24/7 you might finish it. Spent weeks playing before finding out about Yeesha pages that add things to your Realto. had to do a lot of areas again, but worth it!

Adventure gamer here. Never good at run amok, shoot um games. Constantly dying.
