Can anyone can recommend some new puzzle / adventure games for a friend of mine. She enjoys games but can't handle platformers or most 3d and doesn't like wholly match 3, item finding or most retro style games.

Some of the ones she likes or owns (which might also give others some ideas) include;

Classic Adventure
- 7th Guest (& soon 11th Hour)
- Discworld series
- Grim Fandango (Looking forward to the remake!)
- Longest Journey / Dreamfall
- Myst series including URU
- Neverhood (Come to GOG already!)
- Sierra's King's Quest, Space Quest etc but not as interested in replay
- The Dig

Point and Click Adventure
- Book of Unwritten Tales
- Botanicula
- Broken Sword series
- Deponia series (owns, but less keen on the comedy / cartoon)
- Machinarium
- Memoria
- Still Life 1 & 2
- Syberia 1 & 2
- Tell Tale Monkey Island (may expand to others)
- Tex Murphy, Tesla Effect (Got her the other Tex Murphy today)

Puzzle only
- World of Goo
- COGS
- Contraption Maker
- Puzzle Dimension

Puzzle Platformer
- Little Big Adventure 1 & 2 (watched & enjoyed)
- Unmechanical

Still trying to convince her with
- The Blackwell series (& Gemini Rue looks similar)
- Stacking

Ideally I'm looking for suggestions of any I've missed that she might like.

PS - Did take a look at searching first and found this thread (http://www.gog.com/forum/general/adventurepointand_click_recommendations/page1) which gave some ideas, however a few more may have popped up over 2 years.

Decided to delete the recap list unless someone requests it to be put back in place - it was getting too unwieldy. I have my own backup copy which I'll sort through.

Dark Fall franchise, The Lost Crown (I recently played it, it was good), also she can grab Bemine 16 now, there are two point and click (Questo for Infamy and 1954 Alcatraz), so she can plays without spending a large amount of money.

Also I suggest on playing the whole Myst saga, not only the first one (again, she can grab the Myst pack here, it will probably go up for sale again before the Autumn Sale will over).
How about Spacechem for puzzles (as in the think it out kind not the falling block kind)?

It's pretty hard, and the tutorial's kinda bad (since it doesn't really tell you certain things and teaches you some bad habits). but it's also pretty interesting as well as sandboxy so it's not like there's any one solution for things.
Based on World of Goo and Contaption Maker, I would recommend MouseCraft (here on GOG). Charming puzzler with 80 levels. Not too hard, but quite fun. Kind of Lemmings Lite, if you know what I mean.

Simon the Sorcerer might be funny enough for her to try. Not too much pixel hunting
How about Botanicula, Monkey Island remakes, Tales of Monkey Island, Sam & Max, and the Journeyman Project games?
Try Puzzle Agent 1 & 2, both games are very fun to play. Also, while playing it reminded me a lot of Twin Peaks, in case you know the show.
Gabriel Knight 1+2+3
Full Throttle
Pathologic
The Last Express
Zork: Grand Inquisitor
Bad Mojo
URU

Games like The 7th Guest and Zork: Nemesis can be good for brain puzzles and atmosphere.

I wonder if your friend might be interested in expanding a little outside the comfort zone with an RPG adventure. A lot of the elements (strong characters, setting, story, exploration/adventuring) are the same just with different playstyles and some getting used to combat systems (I know combat can be intimidating but some of the systems on easy can be very accessible to someone just used to adventure games, especially in the great classics like BGs, Fallouts, and Torment.)

Lol, yeah, I forgot Gabriel Knight saga and Last Express.
Maybe not quite what you are looking for, but try Puzzle Quest?

It is a Match 3 game at the core, but it has RPG and strategy elements. It is very, very good. Very good mix of Puzzle and Adventure :)
The Swapper and Vessel (sadly not on GOG). I've finished the former and I'm about half way through the latter and both are excellent puzzle games. Don't let them fool you - they are definitely NOT platformer games! It just happens they are 2D and have some platforms in them but they absolutely don't require ultra precision during jumps nor high reflexes. They are really about solving puzzles.

^This. It doesn't look as addictive as it really is but it's amazing.
Some great suggestions here, and I've added to my own wishlist as well :). Others I'll need to look at closer because I don't know them (which is why I created this thread).

She's played all of the Myst series & URU (I picked up my CD-less version during this sale), and I think has Botanicula and Tell Tale's Monkey Island but hasn't played them yet. If she likes Monkey Island I'll try other Tell Tale games.

Games like Sam & Max, Puzzle Agent and maybe Simon the Sorcerer may be a little slapstick / cartoony for her but I'll try MouseCraft and see. Bad Mojo is way too dark.

Her partner (whom she sometimes plays the more adventure style games with) isn't a fan of Journeyman, however is likely to replay Zork with her at some stage. Dark fall might suit though, or The Last Express.

Is Space Chem all the same type of puzzle, or does it gradually introduce new elements?

Unfortunately not; she can't cope with real time speed puzzles so much and has no interest in RPGs otherwise I'd have a few more to suggest as well. I'm encouraging Stacking as a possibility, which is a bridge to more platformer based puzzlers and might be mostly safe.

Possibly, I did see them playing Unmechanical at some point.

I would say that they are both harder then Unmechanical but the comparison is very good. All three are about solving puzzles not platforming/fighting or whatever else
