I know we have a Metal Thread, but I thought it would be appropriate to also have a place dedicated to one of my favorite metal genres. Besides, I'm always looking to find new prog metal bands, so I'm curios to see what other people are listening to.

I'll ask you to please stick to Prog Metal/Rock only in this thread, though bands that have only marginally touched the area are fine too, as look as we keep to their prog albums/songs. Occasional, but not constant, growling is also accepted even if it's not normally within the boundaries of progresivness.

Here are some of my prog goldies:

** Arena **
Skin Game
Salamander
Tantalus

** Threshold **
Opium
The Art Of Reason
Phenomenon

** Ayreon **
My House on Mars
And The Druids Turn to Stone
River of Time

** Vanden Plas **
Pheonix
Nightwalker
Holes in the Sky

I've got more to come... in the meantime I encourage you to share your own.

I know him from his Strapping Young Lad days and have heard he has some prog albums too, but never got around to looking deeper into it. Any recommendations?
Dream Theater has always been a top favorite of mine.
Pain of Salvation, Blotted Science, Animals as Leaders, Symphony X and Ayreon have always been my favourites.

For his proggiest:

Terria
Synchestra
Ocean Machine: Biomech
Accelerated Evolution
Ki
Transcendence
I generally don't find prog metal that interesting. It tends to come off as repetitive despite the wacky time signatures etc. Either they sound like bloated power metal or Dream Theater wanna be's. Not much going on there.

As for a band in the sub genre that actually does something unique, I'll stick with Dawn of a Dark Age. Jazz and Black Metal.
Deadsoul Tribe

Riverside

Von Hertzen Brothers
I don't want write here the popular band titles and I try to remember the little-known bands.
Kylver - "The Mountain Ghost" (cool instrumental album) and Earthside - "A Dream In Static".
Dream Theater is a band that I love for both all their accomplishments, and lately, shortcomings. I'll never forget the time as a teen when I discovered them with Awake, Images & Words and A Change of Seasons.

Animals as Leaders has a new album coming on 11/11. They're fantastic. Incredible musicianship. First two records have a bit iffy production/sound, but the songs were top level already then.

V - The New Mythology Suite by Symphony X is also one of those albums that I can listen to anytime. It's ambitious, but still accessible. Just the right mix of straight-on hit songs, and more musically demanding passages.
How did nobody mention Psychotic Waltz yet? Too obvious? ;) They are/were great!

Looks like I have a lot of listening to do. Deadsoul Tribe sound a lot like something I'd resonate with, but wasn't aware of. Thanks goes to PainOfSalvation for mentioning them.

Also, here's a very promising band I missed previously:

** Anthriel **
Light Divine
Devil's Lullaby
Heaven to Grace
