SirPrimalform: Region locking seems to be a big thing for Japanese publishers.
They also love DRM to enforce those locks so...

joelandsonja: I am hoping that the Nintendo Switch will change a lot of minds in regards to region locking, since the system will be free from region locking. Although that doesn't mean these companies will go completely DRM-Free.
Aren't PS3 and PS4 disc games region free? Doesn't seem to have changed much yet.

Darvond: That's the law.
Some region locks have nothing to do with censorship and law, but are rather market-control instruments.
Games locked in their country of origin because the publisher wants to encourage using another platform or another price scheme are quite common for Japan and Germany, for example. In those cases, the local version is no different than the international one, but the lock ensures the local crowd will buy the overpriced/console version.

Darvond: Can't really think of many Enix sins.

benmar: They merged with Square.
I wonder why they merge. Square was big with final fantasy. Enix was big with dragon quest and star ocean. I didn't see any reason why they merged back then

All the games you can purchase in Nintendo's online store are DRMed.

Square was desperate after that ill fated movie flopped. They put all the money into it.
