mike_cesara: I think there is only one game I would like to play (or even better, play it on PC), The Last of Us.
avatar
P1na: I'm actually staying at a friend's house and he had a PS3, so I bought a second hand copy of the last of us and tried it out. I found it just OK; not bad but not particularly amazing either. Too much hype on that one, it's not like you're missing much there.
I don't think I'm going to buy any console (or even TV), so it's not like I'm suffering with obsessive compulsive disorder : )
But I'd give it a try if I had one.

Zchinque: Valkyria Chronicles. End of.
Also on PC via Steam. I just bought it this week for $5, (the Steam key was on sale on GamersGate.)

It's never coming to the PC. The Last of Us is a first-party Sony exclusive. So are the Uncharted games.

Can't go wrong with heavy rain.

BenKii: Here's my list of the best games you can play exclusively on the PS3.

Best RPG:
Final Fantasy XIII trilogy (XIII, XIII-2, Lightning Returns)
avatar
stg83: Not to question your taste as its all subjective, but do you seriously think this is the Best RPG on PS3, I am curious to know what you liked about these since they are almost universally regarded as the worst by fans of the Final Fantasy series.

Also FF XIII trilogy is not console exclusive anymore as the & [url=http://store.steampowered.com/app/292140/]XIII-2 are available on Steam now with the last one probably coming soon as well. I haven't played these games or much of the Final Fantasy for that matter but am planning to do so when all the games in the trilogy are available on PC. :)
I'm a big Final Fantasy fan (I bought a PS3 just for FFXIII) so of course I'm gonna like them. They aren't the best FF games ever, but XIII is in my opinion the best RPG on the PS3 (I hear that Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is supposed to be a one of the best RPGs on PS3 but I've never played it and can't vouch for it). I like how in every FF installment, Square changes up the battle system and makes it different, and in the first 2 XIII games you play more as a coach than individually selecting commands like previous FF games. The 3rd XIII game isn't as good as the first 2 but was included in the list for completeness. I do admit though that the story is crap. but the battle system makes up for it.

And yes I know you can play all 3 on the 360 and the first 2 on PC through Steam, but until Square decides to finally release the 3rd on PC, it will remain as the best RPG you can play on PS3. Also, the 360 version isn't native 720p resolution but is instead 576p so the PS3 version wins again.

BenKii: *snip*
Fair enough, thank you for taking the time to reply in detail. So you mainly enjoyed them for the Battle System i.e gameplay which is a more then valid reason for me. I have Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch but only played a little bit of it so far, being a big Studio Ghibli fan though I can say that it is indeed a very special JRPG that can only be enjoyed on PS3. So I would recommend that you should give it a try as well. :)

MetalJesus has a couple of Hidden Gems videos for PS3 here.

Maybe you'll find something you'll like among them.
Thanks for all the recommendations everyone.

Ended up going with Last of Us, Heavy Rain, Metal Gear Legacy, Demon's Souls, and Ico for starters. Will probably end up picking up most the things recommended in this thread as money allows (sadly some of the more niche titles seem to be expensive as hell especially the few that are niche and disc-only).
Personally I have never been interested in the newer consoles, but I recently saw a review of the best games on PS and XB1 I saw like 50% of them were console exclusive, and while I can't imagine how I'll be able to play an FPS with only a joypad (Halo) I might try.
Say hello to Solidus Snake and The End for me. Enjoy. :D

I care more about the game than the platform generally, I just prefer the freedom and control PC allows. Plus with PC there is no hardware lifespan or server 'expiration date' that can't be overcome. The only reason I am so late to the PS3 party is I'm cheap and was on the fence for ages.

Actually most FPS aren't bad with a gamepad. With a well crafted control scheme and some mild aim assist I really never think about it. The only things that really suffer with gamepad are competitive things and things designed for "twitch" gameplay.

I have been playing on PC since the NES era (and NES obviously). Bought a PS3 last march since it was cheap, and also needed a DVD/Blu-ray player :P The games I bought (and HIGHLY recommend) are all exclusives:

.Uncharted Dual Pack (first one and game of the year edition of the second one)
.Uncharted 3 (my personal favorite of the series even with all the "wtf" plot holes)
.The Last of Us (really overrated but is a good game and the characters are amazing)
.Catherine (just GET THIS. My personal favorite PS3 game)
.Gran Turismo 6 (skip and go straight to the 6th one... and remember: 2-3 hours worth of damn updates but this includes specially designed cars for the game by the car manufacturers, new events, etc...)
.Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection (To be fair, ICO didn't survive the hype for me, still a good game with a really low point towards the middle and a hell of a climax... Now Shadow just blew me away... except a couple of colossi in the middle)
.Journey (like Catherine, just get it and play it in one go... is not too long but my god what an experience it was)

PS: I know is not exclusive for PS3, but Life Is Strange is an amazing adventure which my laptop can't run (waiting on chapter 5), and just bought Thomas Was Alone for $2 (80% off right now) since I had some leftover from a prepaid PSN card (I already have that game on Steam but that $2.03 on my wallet was driving me nuts... cool little game though).

PS2: turn that PS3 into your digital entertainment device and put any MP4/AVI movie files, pictures and music you have in there. Just a great secondary use. And you can also use the YouTube app from your smartphone to control the app in your PS3 (only 720p though). Also, no pun intended with the PSs ^^
Some 360 exclusives :

Lost Odyssey

Magna Carta 2 (dont need to have played MC1)

Blue Dragon

Fable 1+2

Gears of War

Nier
+1 to Folklore, Catherine, Siren Blood Curse, ICO and Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection, Zone Of the Enders HD Collection, Little Big Planet 2, Blazing Angels 1 and 2, Heavenly Sword... so much to choose from!! 0:)

@People that recommended Siren Blood Curse, is it worth picking up the Siren (PS2 classic)?
