ThePunishedSnake: Team Ico Collection is mandatory too.

tammerwhisk: I've heard people speak quite highly of Ico, but I don't really know anything about it.
You can't go wrong with ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, two of the best games you'll ever play on any platform IMO. I played ICO for the very first time last year and it still holds up, really wonderful game. In simplest terms its an action/adventure game with more focus on puzzle platforming. Both Team ICO games are so great that people have been known to have bought the console just to be able to play them. :)

bad_fur_day1: Shame I don't think the PS3 is backwards compatible, miss out on some great PSOne and PS2 games like, Dragon Quest 8, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Bully. I think Metal Gear Solid 2 and Resident Evil 4 have PC versions if you can find them.
The PS3 and Vita both have access to a lot of ps1 classics, but I think the later ps3 models stripped the ps2 backwards compat. Also, Capcom seems to be releasing/porting most RE games to PC lately (yeah it is Steam DRM, but with Japanese companies I'm not going to hold my breath).
I usually make a point of finding and playing the highest rated games, there's usually a good reason they're well regarded. On PC or consoles, doesn't make much difference to me.
I used to do that, but I've gotten burned by it. GTA games are highly rated and boring as shit to me. Half-Life is another highly rated series that in my opinion is basically the Citizen Kane of heavily scripted games (has an important historical role, but is boring as hell). Some games are incredibly highly rated due to the hype around release, but fail to stand the tests of time (or be enjoyable if you aren't already heavily invested). I'd rather have a flawed cult-classic than a shallow advertising behemoth (not to say I don't enjoy AAAs).
Valkyria Chronicles. End of.

It looks relatively cheap, so I'll probably take the plunge then. As much as people seem to love it even years later it can't be worse than half the stuff I own.

Ain't that already on PC with everything included?

Haha...thats the spirit. What are some of your favorite games? I will try to recommend to you Sony's console exclusive stuff based on those. :)

Dark Souls, Tomb Raider (all of them), RE4, The Evil Within, The Cat Lady, Majora's Mask, Bioshock 1/Inf... Really too many things and genre to list. The only things I actively dislike are strategy games and games with complex and or obtuse menus/interfaces.

Oh, absolutely. A highly rated game that is boring, is still boring. Never liked Half Life 2 much. It's a good idea to try them all out incase you do really like them. I hate scripted games and events, I much prefer for them to evolve naturally like Farcry 1 or Arma.

Unfortunately trying everything tends to be rather expensive. Eh, scripting can be well done (most 'great' horror games rely heavily on scripting), just a lot of games use it to put the player on rails.

Well if you liked Dark Souls then playing the original game Demons Souls that started it all should be worthwhile. It seems like you enjoy action/adventure games and aren't thrown off by weirdness so I would recommend you to try the Metal Gear Solid series but in order to be really invested in them you should have a high tolerance for long cutscenes that most of the times won't make much sense. If that is not an issue and you're curious about the franchise my advise is to get the Legacy Collection and play the series from the beginning.

Now I'm not gonna lie, the very first game in the series has become dated especially graphics wise but if you can power through that then it is still really good, what makes MGS unique is the awesome protagonist, crazy humor in gameplay and amazing boss fights. If you have watched many anime series, then that would give you an idea about the sort of weird humor, stylistic action and over the top characters in it. Once you soldier through the dated look of the first game and are able to finish it, then you'll be hooked because from MGS 2: Sons of Liberty things get a lot better graphics and gameplay wise.

I was a bit lucky there with the Gamecube remake Twin Snakes. Yeah me.

Oh. Right. It be.

Just so used to bringing that up as the console exclusive of choice.

DAMN YOU, SEGA!!!
Dragon's Crown if it hasn't been said. Give it a go, it's a great game.

Yeah, Demons Souls looks great and definitely gonna get MGS Legacy Collection between the glowing recommednations and what not. Tried some of the early MGS on my psp/vita, but it was kinda painful with the small screen and shoehorned controls (plus the GZ, TPP, and Reveangeance have me wanting to experience the rest of the plot especially since the wiki is terrible).

Hey man, its a good thing more Japanese devs are porting even if late. The more they properly embrace PC the more likely seeing stuff eventually released DRM-free gets. I for one love not being tethered to the limited lifespan of hardware.

Is it? I know it is being shallow, but the art style is so off-putting that I skipped it when it came up in my searches earlier this evening/morning.

It is. I played it quite a few times through with the same character and there was still fun had. The game actually gets more difficult as you get stronger. I would've been happy to level up other classes too, if only I didn't get rid of my ps3 to start building a pc again.
Ignore The Last of Us, Dark Souls and all those tacky spikey haired JRPG's. You'll be doing the same repetitive crap for hours. I recommend the Yakuza games and Siren Blood Curse.
