It ain't easy being the King.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs, a turn-based RPG where you try not to spill too much of your royal blood, is now available for pre-order, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 15% pre-order discount!

After an ill-fated expedition to empty the treasury, Kay and his royal siblings must reluctantly go on an adventure to restore the kingdom to its former glory. Thankfully, this means exciting turn-based fighting, weapon-crafting, plenty of kooky characters to meet or recruit, and lots of sightseeing.

The 15% discount will last until the game's expected release on May 18.

Watch the trailer.

Are you allowed to share some aspects of the town management and diplomatic options?
Sure. Buildings in the town are connected to the villagers. You start the game with nothing but the castle, pier and the inn. As the game unfolds you construct buildings which unlock villagers like a smithy, merchant house, pathfinder, etc. As you improve bonds with said villagers you get an option to upgrade their buildings which in turn advances the bond even further.

Some buildings also unlock additional gameplay benefits. Upgrading the pier lets you fish, while upgrading the town square lets you take more people on your adventures.

Diplomacy is realized via diplomatic missives. You get letters from time to time (think Tyranny) where two factions ask you to resolve an issue. You choose sides and that builds up the reputation with the selected fraction. They are also set in opposing pairs, so befriending the samurai dwarves will lock out their enemy: the viking elves.

Each faction also unlocks their unique party member when maxed out. They come with their own skills, perks and social bonds, so it's worth pursuing :)

Nice! Another one I backed on KS, hopefully I can get a GOG key from the devs.

Nice, so it'll take at least 2 playthroughs to try out all the possible party members.
Thank you for the info.
Is there romance? Asking for a friend.

Fixed that for you! I tease, I tease ;)

Also, so weird - I was JUST watching youtube videos of this one yesterday. And I probably do that maybe once every two months or so? So it's not even like I watch 3 hours of upcoming game video a day. Must have felt ripples in the GoG-force.

You guys should do a DLC with a mouse warrior character. The title of your game sounds a lot like a certain board game. Looks good by the way!
Looked kind of generic at a glance, but after taking a closer look at the game page and screenshots, I have to say the artwork looks very nice and polished. ( Hah hah -- polish-ed. ) The game mechanics seem interesting as well. Is the overall game flow comparable to Blackguards and Banner Saga?

I generally don't do pre-orders, but I might pick this up when it's officially released.

No, but you can reply to a diplomatic missive with a picture of your nostrils (sic!). Does that help?

Not really. In Regalia the flow is largely dictated by the player. The world map is completely open and can be explored in any order you like. Chapter objectives are different as well. You get a large board of available quests and the game asks you to do a number of them during a chapter - but you decide which ones you want to do. You can focus exclusively on fighting or perhaps on building bonds with people or you can mix and match. You do get a compulsory story objective in some of the chapters but they can be tackled any time you like as long as you get it done by the chapter's end.

Battles are more similar but that's more on all three games belonging to the same genre :).

Really like the look of this, and Tactical RPGs are one of my favourite genres.

Wishlisted for now, but will definitely get it at some point.
Who needs 3D when you can do wonders in 2D? ;) Exceptional - even if not entirely original - visuals (both art style & animations) and on top of that it seems to have decent combat gameplay among other features. Voice acting is the cherry on top and a very welcome feature. I'm wishlisting it for now since i'm on a RPG hiatus right now.
It looks good, but is this a 3D or 2D game? If the latter, why are the system requirement so high?

Ah, gonna skip this one then. Erm, I mean the friend is. Too bad.

It's a mix of both. The backgrounds are in 2D, while the characters and particle effects are all in 3D.
I love the plot. I'm sold (figuratively).
