Nirth: MP3 player thread

akhliber recommended the FiiO's audio players if sound quality is important. I've been eyeing the FiiO X1 myself.
Hahaha... Seems I asked the same question in that thread too, and forgot, or didn't read through it properly.
Someone there mentioned cowon as well, I remember that being an answer when I asked the same question a couple years ago. They still any good?

well i dont really like to necro threads
and the pono is an product in off it self

i stil much prefer the fiio X1 though
the X5 is the only one with DSD support and that's the format i really wanna give a whirl.

X1 looks better than X3.

does anyone know if these need a separate amp or low ohm cans? the more portable the better.

Sachys: I saw the words "toblerone", "porno" and then that you'd written the thread. disappointed!
So I wasn´t the only one :P
According to a recent article on a Dutch news site, music for the Ponoplayer will be 2-2.5 times as expensive as digital music in CD quality on other sites.
It also said the Ponoplayer is only suited for audiophiles with great hearing.

Personally I don't mind paying more for quality, but this is not worth it to me. I'm not an audiophile.

Everything that can shut the mouth of an audiophile is good. They should change the audio standard to 32bit/192khz so we could have a few years of peace, until the next generation of audiophile will be born and claim that that isn't enough either, that they can hear 64bit/380khz.

Haha.

Well I consider myself somewhat of an audiophile, and to tell you the truth, most audiophiles I know (and people on forums and stuff) seem to be more of an conservative type - audio cd and vinyl is the format of choice for many people. For me, too. I don't really bother with hi-res, yet anyway when availability is an issue.

I'm not going to argue if it is possible to hear or not, I'm just saying not all "audiophiles" are like that. I think it's more the geeky techy engineer-y people that are like that - you know the same type of people that are very much interested in every small change and every little detail in the newest Android handset or something.

snowkatt: i kinda doubt that a the 10 grand per speaker crows will even want to bother with this type of thing
its either a full stereo set or a vacuum amps with vinyl
Right, but what are they using to play the digital studio master, straight from the original analog recordings, they just bought?
