I vote for the games a month or two ago, would definitely buy them here. I'm honestly not that bothered by limited activations but Johren just seems so sketchy in general. First I couldn't even make an account on chrome but was able to with Edge, but saw their weird currency and security systems and noped out of there.

TrishaCat: This has been the only update:

"Sadly, #DungeonTravelers 2 and 2-2 will not be able to release on Steam.

Steam’s review made it impossible to pass while keeping the core appeal and high standards we hold for these titles.

We apologize to all players who were still looking forward to a Steam version of DT2-2."
Yea it's all over the news already. This is another golden opportunity for gog to swoop in and grab these.
Let's hope they use common business sense.

Unfallen_Satan: I mean, wasn't Japan's age of consent for girls to have sexual relations 13 until just recently?
Short answer: No.

Long answer: The age of 13 as an age of consent was set in 1907 in the penal code at that time. This was back when most ages of consent around the world were 12 or lower (one state in the US had an age of consent of 7).

However, since then, the penal code was superseded by prefectural laws. And these laws specified far higher ages for consent. These prefectural AoCs were most notable updated in the mid/late 1990s to combat compensated dating. At that time, most were raised to ages between 16 and 18.

Further, the penal code received amendments clarifying scope in 2017, which was when men as a victim of sexual assault and rape were first recognised. Rape and gang rape as separate crimes were also abolished and reclassified as "forced sexual assault" to further clarify scope and to remove female penetration as a determining factor. This addition also increased the cut-off age to which such crimes were considered to have been perpetrated against children to 18, and further clarified the inclusions of legal guardians for determining when power was abused in forms of sexual coercion.

Now, here's where the western media and terminally online latch onto: The base AoC (and not that specific to certain crimes or situations) in the penal code was never updated. It didn't need updating. The legal system in Japan already knew it was no longer valid as laws and amendments from other sources superseded it -- such as the child welfare act which has no cut-off age for "forcing a child to commit and obscene act". Not to mention other obscenity laws that also carry more legal weight than the penal code. Anyway, this meant a little loophole in the form of two uninhabited islands that may or may not have fallen under prefectural control.

Of course, western media, etc., fail to mention that no member of the public can legally visit or even access these islands. So again, AoC didn't need clarifying for lumps of rock that housed no people.

So the most recent updates to the penal code were purely for show. To finally stop the west from misrepresenting fact. Did it help? No. Western media is still misrepresenting the facts and giving their readers half-truths and blatant misinformation.

This is an impressive post. Thank you. I am sorry for previously taking an ignorant and careless view of a complicated legal topic.

My next question is unrelated to the AoC and is only for my personal interest as a legal worker. Would you happen to know how Japanese penal code work alongside prefectural laws? Is it like in the U.S., where the same instance of conduct could be charged and penalized separately under both federal and state laws? Or is the situation different in Japan?
A bit of an interesting development, Shiravune have now opened up to putting their published titles onto other stores with JAST, Kagura, and MangaGamer. None of the games so far are either Dungeon Travelers games, but I think it's more of a "matter of time" now than anything else. At the very least, this is confirmation they're opening up to other places now.

So yeah, sadly nothing on GOG itself but worst case scenario their catalogue never comes onto GOG, people can still buy it DRM free elsewhere (from personal experience using them, JAST is a very solid and reliable store front and while MG is a bit clunky as a site, it gets the job done otherwise).

Thank you for the update, that's good to hear. I don't know anything about Johren, but I wonder now if they have some kind of exclusivity (or timed exclusivity) of the Dungeon Traveler games that would prevent them being released elsewhere.
Thanks for the update. DRM-free is DRM-free . Not gonna pout and cry if DT ends up in JAST instead of here.

On the other hand we all know GOG works in slow ways. So i would not rule them out just yet.
Not sure why GOG wouldn't accept unless the content is significantly more "adult" / perhaps "offensive" than normal p0rn games. Granted the games didn't receive 1k+ votes each, but iirc votes for them did move into the 300 / 400 range pretty quickly compared to many other games.

1000+ is a hard thing for such a niche title tbf
I guess two new things:

One, Dungeon Travelers: To Heart 2 landed on Steam despite what happened with 2 and 2-2. Of course, it came at the cost of them having to label it as "Adult Only" so it's not getting anywhere near as much coverage as it would otherwise.

More relevant to GOG, Shiravune are finally putting some of their titles on here. Guess it's only a matter of time to tell if they're able to pull off a release here or it's something with Aquaplus not wanting to release their titles onto a DRM-free store.

Maybe it's a test to see how well they sell, or Aquaplus indeed not wanting to release DRM-free. The DT games have FAR more votes on the Community Wishlist than the newly-released games, so I'm not sure why those wouldn't have been prioritized otherwise.

Or alternatively, the reason could also be because the DT games are more risque than many other games in this genre, and GOG doesn't want them for that reason.

I think that's the reason why we only have only one real Senran Kagura game on GOG, and GOG made even that release into a huge debacle, and no further SK games have been released since (the Neptunia one doesn't count since that's not a real SK game and it is much more toned down than the real ones), even though eons have passed since that time.

Most GOG customers seem to be missing this point. They think that because GOG will allow some AO games, GOG will also allow all AO games. But that is not necessarily so, and that does not seem to be GOG's policy (and the SK games are not even AO, yet even they cause huge debacles for GOG....the DT games would cause GOG at least as much of a debacle as SK, from GOG's point of view, if not more, most likely).

Is this game full of sex or how does it look? Which one is the real SK game? Senran Kagura?

I got no clue regarding those games but i just give a vote as i got a weak spot for niche games and stuff that is not allowed to exist in todays world.

Ahh, i guess this one... indeed this is the only "real good" SK game here: SENRAN KAGURA SHINOVI VERSUS

You mean the angered customers will go to Steam instead? Oh wait... they are already going there, so i guess this debacle can be excluded... it must be another debacle i got no clue about.
