....Moderation....Here?
Why I come here to escape the vitriolic atmosphere of Bethesda, Steam, and Bioware's forums...I admit we did have an asshole who screamed out spoilers in the title in the beginning of the forum's formation, yet so far nothing I see here stands out as needing immediate moderation.

Is that the guy who started the thread called "Darth Vader is Luke's Father and Norman Bates IS His Mother"?

No, It was a spoiler for the witcher 2, not even one day after it came out! Yeah, I was pissed 'cause I pre-ordered it, and didn't even finish DL'n it!

Magmarock: I had no trouble getting hotline Miami 2 or Postal 2. Maybe you should do a little more research, because just because some guy says you can't get something doesn't mean you can't.
We are not talking about "someone", we (Specially you) are talking about autorities and the power some people can have to FORCE others to do or not to do. If you find to bypass that limitation I couldn't say you did it the legit way since some law forbidden it; therefore, you are breaking some law/normative/etc.

That way, living in Australia isn't enough for you, so you want the internet to be controlled? Awesome.

privatizing your IP is perfectly legal, since you clearly know nothing about Australia outside of maybe a few youtube videos I suggest you do more research on the subject.
"living in Australia isn't enough for you, so you want the internet to be controlled? Awesome." way to beat the straw man and miss the point, Bart.

SeduceMePlz: ... Eh, what's it going to do? Waste GOG staff members' time pouring over reports from users with hurt feelings? ... What benefit?...
Do you really not see any benefit? I mean, surely the blues cannot see everything and must often rely on feedback. So a way to give it to them is a good idea. And if the reasons are actually justified then it would not be a waste of anyones time at all. If feelings are hurt and someone actually bothers to hit the button chances are there is actually something to it. We don't waste our time too.

Actually there is the possibility of contacting the blues. Just find a post of a blue (news, stickies, ..) and PM him/her. Or just contact GOG directly: http://www.gog.com/support/contact

GOG community forum has moderation currently and probably will continue to have. The question is whether it does its job or not? This we can answer only with concrete examples. Without them everything stays purely hypothetical.
Why did I get so many down votes. Because people disagree with me or do they think I'm some kind of toxic invader O.o

So you're quite happy, when it suits you to violate some resctrictions yourself while at the same time calling for more oppression to be impossed on others.

Maybe because they do not wish to have yet another facet of their lives encroached on by authorities.

johnnygoging: Does anybody really want a bunch of mods making "judgement calls", or even worse, making easy ones on stuff that is "well-accepted" in this community that you don't do?

I don't think we need mod-irating. We're irate enough as it is sometimes without mods coming in here and doing their thing. There may be a day! A red day! But it is not this day!

darthspudius: But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men and woman of GOG!!!
YEAH!

Telika: I think we should pre-emptively lynch a few blues, just to get the message across.
Poland is supposed to be nice at this time of year ... "springtime for Poland" no wait, that's not right ... X-D

You sure conclude a lot of assumptions based on very little information. Would you like me to send you a tin foil hat?

No tin foil = paranoid crazy.

Your views are crazy. Scary crazy. You're acting like this is some righteous crusade. How does a wish for more involvement in the forums translate to "OMG!!! He's trying to kill free speech ever where and bring fourth the Communist regime."

It's just a forum on a digital retail site. BTW the government is spying on you right now. They know what you're planning. Put that hat on and cover your house with coat hangers.

Who's jumping to conclusions? You said you were able to get Hotline Miami 2 which means you broke or "rebelled" against Australian law/legislation. Right? You make a post calling for tighter controls by authorities here on GOG. You asked why you were down repped - that was explained to you. Then you get hysterical and start name calling when the facts are pointed out to you. I'm sorry I can't help you any further than that, other than suggesting you take some time out for some serious contemplation and self-reflection. In other words a little navel gazing goes a long way. Good luck. :-)

Those weren't facts, those were opinions and I'm not trusting yours because you come off as irrational.

Calling for more moderation is hardly calling for someone to be banned. All I really want is more involvement so when the fan boys do what they do best. someone can tell them to chill out.

. Also you know nothing about Australia. When a game is "banned" all it means is that you can't sell it it at retail. There are zero fucks given when it. comes it importing and hiding your ip is not i legal at all.

Finally I am not the subject of conversation here. This topic is about moderation in forums.

I think the big "take-away" from the thread is this:

I think that if you are the original poster on any topic, your words are going to be analyzed, broken down, built up and responded to by any person able to see your post. I do believe that self-moderation is preferred over the moderation of others. While this requires some bit of maturity to do so, a lack of maturity to do so can become self evident.

Use of profanity when done in jest, cleverly injected into a response or even done from sheer excitement can be overlooked or ignored by people at times; however, when used out of anger or malice to others, it loses its charm.

It's OK if more than 50% of the population disagrees with you; it might actually mean that the way one is thinking about things is either: a) progressive and radically different from the rest of the population; or b) considered digressive by others based on their view.

One will eventually run into a group of like-minded individuals (or fan boys) who will have and post their opinions on any particular topic. My advice is this: "don't poke the cage". If you wake a sleeping bear from hibernation, interrupt it while it is eating or disturb its young and it lashes out, you get what you deserve.

I personally believe that self-moderation works and even concerned forum denizens that point out really egregious behavior does work; however, I think having a person or person(s) who are few in number moderating are just as fallible as the rest of us would really ruin these forums.

Cheers!

I very much appreciate these replies. Can you tell me why though so many people down voted my OP and seem to take things so personally? I am pro democracy so while I think a little more moderation is still a good id, if the majority. of users don't want it, then it shouldn't be implemented. However like the guy before you, it's hard to get a straight answer. While there have been a few people who disagree and offered rational reasons why. There's also been a lot of paranoid people who seem to think that I'm trying to take away all the freedoms or something. This is a reaction I simply don't understand.
