montcer9012: Oh my... Totally loved this thread hahahaha.

What I found the most corious at all, is that MagmarockNew seems to be from Australia, one of the most limited liberties countries all over the world; you can't do X or Y if some burocrats think it won't be "good" for citizens... In this case is like some "moderators" should think for us what is best.

What I liked the most here in GOG forums, is most people kindness. I think most users here are grown ups; if someone just feel ofended take off; this is internet, not a living environment.

So if this thread is some kind of votation I must disagree. WE THE PEOPLE claim for freedom. Down with the controls! Down with DRM!

Magmarock: I had no trouble getting hotline Miami 2 or Postal 2. Maybe you should do a little more research, because just because some guy says you can't get something doesn't mean you can't.
avatar
Fenixp: And as long as there's something to talk about, that's also minority of posts you're ever going to get.
avatar
Magmarock: Sorry, I don't' understand the statement.

JDelekto: The misspellings and misplacing of spaces can be confusing. I thought "Modir" ate the forums and someone was looking for help!

I would rather we learn how to moderate ourselves instead of others'
avatar
Magmarock: Yes I'd for be for that. Features such as an ignore button or simply not being able to post in the forums until you've spent some money could probably help with that. What do you think?
I wouldn't go for the "pay for play", only because it tends to assume only the "rich elite" could post; however, I think an ignore button would be quite apropos.

Beware the 'ignore', a person seeking attention who does not get it could become a threat to themselves or others.

Magmarock: Sorry, I don't' understand the statement.
Sorry, how to put it differently... When you post a topic worth talking about, even like this one, it will be talked about. Sure, there will be completely unrelated posts and as it is, we can't avoid that (not that I would want to), but here we are, having a discussion focused on what you wanted to have a discussion about. However, when somebody posts a topic where there's very little to talk about, it either dies off and falls into obscurity or gets derailed to all hell - because there's nothing to talk about. I would like to point out that I consider even posts like "Fuck moderating the forum. It's a big bundle of fun the way it is. I don't see why they should ruin it because one irritating little twat doesn't like swear words." valuable once you learn to derive value from them. It's all about your expectations and how do you approach discussion aroun here - change these, and I think you'll find it a lot more pleasant experience.

What makes an ignore button better then a block button is that it's subtle. A block button lets the person know they are blocked and some people will attempt to get around that. The reason I suggested a pat to post, was so that there was some measure to stop people from joining to just post nonsense.

Those are some very good point you made I think you might be right. I still think we could do wit a little moderation. I don't want to ban swearing or anything. (For some reason that's what some people are concluding) what I would like are admins to tell other people off for being well.... in a word "fan boys"

A while ago I posted a thread about how I didn't like the flimsy design of xbox one and PS4 CD cases and everyone flipped out and though I was trolling. It was terribly worded yes but still I wasn't expecting that kind of reaction. I also didn't expect many console gamers to be here of all places and I was wrong.

I see this at times, someone will make a post about a product weather it be a game or a system, and a fanboy of said game or system will come along and "put them in their place"

This is what I want to see less of. Just to clarify where I stand on swearing. Fuck the fanboys in whatever hole they shit from until they bleed puss.
A lot of forums have been getting really obnoxious with moderators lately. GOG is one of the few places where I can go that isn't so heavily modded everyone is afraid to speak their minds.

One of my favorite forums for over a decade, comicbookresources.com recently bowed to pressure from the twitter/tumblr social justice horde and wiped a decade of forum history and restarted with rules so draconian they'd make RPG.net blush. I got banned (from a forum I was on for a DECADE!) simply for stating (calmly, without insult) that I liked a comic cover that was controversial at the time and I disagreed with censoring it.

The place is a minefield now and anyone that isn't 100% ultra liberal is banned the instant they dare to talk about their opinions, especially if they disagree with anyone female because the mods there are literally instructed to baby any female posters and insti-ban any males that dare to so many as question them. (I'm a polyamorous bisexual guy and apparently I'm too conservative according to the mods and I am not welcome)

So yeah, my experience with moderated forums leads me to believe that it's a bad idea. This place takes care of itself. It does it well and it doesn't need mods in here enforcing strict conversation protocol and banning people for leaning too far to one side or another politically.
GOG.com moderate forums: I happen to saw that about 2 hours ago a new topic about love marriage astrologer with phone number disappeared completely from face of the digital earth.
That kind of moderation is far enough for me. I believe that constantly swearing people will get some trouble as well.

But all other have absolutely full right of speech. It's my right to be funny, stupid, angry, sophisticated or plain crazy, or even decaying ;)

If you want to moderate forums just hit "-" like everyone does. Enough said.

He just wants to discriminate people with Tourette syndrom...

Absolutely nothing. All I meant was *extensive* use of swear words.

Sailors and Tourettes are usually have a special skill to filter their thoughts on paper. I'm pretty sure we have a few sailors already with common sense mode = on. By *extensive* I meant using bad words for the sake of using bad words.

I've been noticing a number of references to SJW in this thread and honestly I wasn't sure why. But this comment of yours does seem to offer a little insight. I don't use Twitter, Facebook or Tumbler, because well it's Twitter, Facebook and Tumbler what other reason do you need.

I don't really want to talk about that stuff because as soon as you take a side it'll get used against you at one point or another. I'm not interested in banning people but I would like something to keep the annoying fanboys at bay. I mean if someone comes along and says Gone Home isn't a game which I think is a valid argument then the fanboys will attack and if anything will do more damage to your freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is awesome but also kind of pointless if you have express that speech because people keep drowning you out with their idiocy.

There's a small number of users that will go into threads and strawman, troll or simply get in the way of a conversation and I'm not sure what I can do about it.

So there have been times when the blues have jumped in to mod things. Do you have a link I'd like to see.

No can no, the topic is no longer exists. As for the *bad* behavior community solved such cases on their own.

I was an English major and I had to go look that one up. :P

And we can't quote because they don't exist, but I can name names.

A couple of days ago a new user named zencharm started a pretty nasty beg thread. It barely lasted 45 minutes before a Blue noticed it and eliminated it.

What you do and do not use is irrelevant. I gave a concrete example of a great forum getting ruined because of overzealous moderation. The fact that you chose to focus on one very small part of my story and ignore the rest is very telling.

So your problem with freedom of speech is apparently that people who disagree with you are allowed to talk. People posting that they disagree with you in no way damages your freedom of speech. You have the right to speak your mind. You do NOT have the right to be free of criticism, nor do you have the right to shut people up for disagreeing with you. This kind of mindset is a perfect example of why we don't need or want mods here. You need to learn that you are NOT a special snowflake and your opinion is not worth any more than anyone else's.
