jeffreydean1: A lot of forums have been getting really obnoxious with moderators lately. GOG is one of the few places where I can go that isn't so heavily modded everyone is afraid to speak their minds.
One of my favorite forums for over a decade, comicbookresources.com recently bowed to pressure from the twitter/tumblr social justice horde and wiped a decade of forum history and restarted with rules so draconian they'd make RPG.net blush. I got banned (from a forum I was on for a DECADE!) simply for stating (calmly, without insult) that I liked a comic cover that was controversial at the time and I disagreed with censoring it.
The place is a minefield now and anyone that isn't 100% ultra liberal is banned the instant they dare to talk about their opinions, especially if they disagree with anyone female because the mods there are literally instructed to baby any female posters and insti-ban any males that dare to so many as question them. (I'm a polyamorous bisexual guy and apparently I'm too conservative according to the mods and I am not welcome)
So yeah, my experience with moderated forums leads me to believe that it's a bad idea. This place takes care of itself. It does it well and it doesn't need mods in here enforcing strict conversation protocol and banning people for leaning too far to one side or another politically.
I've been noticing a number of references to SJW in this thread and honestly I wasn't sure why. But this comment of yours does seem to offer a little insight. I don't use Twitter, Facebook or Tumbler, because well it's Twitter, Facebook and Tumbler what other reason do you need.
I don't really want to talk about that stuff because as soon as you take a side it'll get used against you at one point or another. I'm not interested in banning people but I would like something to keep the annoying fanboys at bay. I mean if someone comes along and says Gone Home isn't a game which I think is a valid argument then the fanboys will attack and if anything will do more damage to your freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is awesome but also kind of pointless if you have express that speech because people keep drowning you out with their idiocy.
There's a small number of users that will go into threads and strawman, troll or simply get in the way of a conversation and I'm not sure what I can do about it.
darthspudius: and what is wrong with swearing?
Cadaver747: Absolutely nothing. All I meant was *extensive* use of swear words.
So there have been times when the blues have jumped in to mod things. Do you have a link I'd like to see.
