A couple of days ago a new user named zencharm started a pretty nasty beg thread. It barely lasted 45 minutes before a Blue noticed it and eliminated it.
OK, here is a *proof* from cashed page

I'm aware that the structure/etymology of that word tends to drive linguists batty, but it's the word most people use, and it's a pretty known term at this point so I use it. It's pretty easy to look up though, the wiki entry does a good job of explaining /tangent

No worries man, I'm not upset at all! Sorry if I worded my reply in a way that made you think so. I sometimes forget that people haven't heard of the word before, and I've also been told by English majors that it has the wrong root and is technically a poorly constructed word. I simply reply that I'm not the one that made it up, it simply is an existing term that describes an aspect of my life :)

It's all good :)

The ninja giveaway thread was locked by Judas after wpegg's blessing if I recall correctly, because it was spiraling out of control.

I understand your concerns with being able to discuss if Gone Home is a game or not for example, but if I were to speculate, this is the place where you are more likely to find insightful opinions on that matter (among the daily side-topic thriving on here).

Oh I guess there is a little moderation. I also think I should've called this thread "please bring in an ignore button" What's a beg thread, it sounds like a "please give me money/game" thing.

Those kind of threads have been made and they don't seem to last for very long. I don't want to stop freedom of speech I'm just not sure what else can be done. I suppose an ignore button would be good. Some sites let the OP mod the thread. Well there was one site that didn't but I can't remember. I'm not saying GOG should do that, but it's an interesting idea. Imagine if you could open a thread and ban people from that specific thread, but they'll still be able to make their own.

He joined and literally came strait here after signing up and asking for a Steam key. One of our valiant forum members quickly posted a link of him in the Steam forums begging a few days before hand.

JDelekto: I wouldn't go for the "pay for play", only because it tends to assume only the "rich elite" could post; however, I think an ignore button would be quite apropos.

Beware the 'ignore', a person seeking attention who does not get it could become a threat to themselves or others.
avatar
Magmarock: What makes an ignore button better then a block button is that it's subtle. A block button lets the person know they are blocked and some people will attempt to get around that. The reason I suggested a pat to post, was so that there was some measure to stop people from joining to just post nonsense.
An ignore may be more 'subtle', but it wouldn't take someone long to catch on if you limit their ability to do anything.

Better yet, (and maybe this was your intent) if you use 'ignore', how about hiding any posts, threads or messages in which the 'ignored' person posted? This way, you're not necessarily shunning them, but you're opting in to not see anything from them.
avatar
darthspudius: But what if a sailor joins the forum? Pretty fucked there lol.
avatar
Cadaver747: Sailors and Tourettes are usually have a special skill to filter their thoughts on paper. I'm pretty sure we have a few sailors already with common sense mode = on. By *extensive* I meant using bad words for the sake of using bad words.
But again, that is no fun! We should have the right to use them whenever we damn well please!

well you're still shunning them but they might not know it. To them everything is as normal but for you their posts simply aren't there. You'd have to click on the "show ignored posts" or log out to see it.

No one fucking cares about your stupid swearing. The F word will lose it's magic if you use it too many times anyway.

EXACTLY! And when that happens we can see it for what it is, just a word, and people can then lighten up and stop getting their panties in a bunch about using it, and when that happens people will stop getting upset about it and eventually they will stop getting offended over it and when that happens we can once and for all give the big kiss off to censorship.

And when that happens I'm gonna dance my fucking ass off! XD

You know, I found a bunch of panties in one of my dresser drawers. I'm going to have to have a chat with my wife about this.
