Is GOG not so good anymore? Why does Galaxy install automatically when I install a game? That ain't right. I thought I was buying games from a cool company.

Look right under the blue install button (that includes GOG Galaxy), and there is a drop down for offline installers. Click that and you will see offline installers which DO NOT include Galaxy.

You must have DLed one of the previous Galaxy-laden installers. They shouldn't be there anymore, so you should contact GOG and tell them which game it was if it was something you just DLed off the website. If it's a previously DLed installer, then you should grab the regular (previously known as 'Classic') backup installer for the game. No Galaxy included anymore.
Make sure not to use the big blue button and all should be well. But GR00T is right, there have been a few old Galaxy versions among the regular "backup" downloads. They do seem to be working on it.

Is there a list that compiles games that have Galaxy versions among the regular backup downloads?

I'm sorry, I don't remember in which thread I read about it. I seem to recall that you could see if the installer included Galaxy based on how it was named; I believe it had a '(g)' in the file name, or some such. Maybe someone else with better memory can tell you. :)

That is good to know! I don't see any "(g)" in any of my GOG file names, so hopefully everything should be fine...

As noted, the old Galaxy-laden installers had a (g) at the end of the file name, but there shouldn't be any of these left in the backup installers. Any that do happen to be there are mistakes and should be reported to GOG staff. But yeah, just keep an eye on the file names and you should be golden.

Please see https://www.gog.com/forum/general/why_is_galaxy_being_pushed_upon_us/post32

"If we would say something like "here's the game with Galaxy" and "oh, here's the same game without Galaxy" users could misunderstand and think they'll get something better (no extra software) with the bare game installers."

You first have to be absolutely clear that you download the "inferior version" (no extra software) before you are able to get it. ;)

Have fun playing.
Get the, what they call, `backup` downloads now.

I made the same mistake. Dowloading several GOG galaxy versions before I realised what was happening.

lol, I hope that's out of context because it being considered better is the whole point of the complaints xD
It's such a hard life being a GOGer.
I can't remember what I clicked on. I just wanted the Grim Fandango installer. All of the sudden Galaxy is installing too. Yeah, it's such a tough life being a GOG'er. Thanks for the responses everyone. Didn't expect anyone to care about this massive problem in my life.

Hope you've got it all sorted now.
