It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

My Adobe Reader 11 got updated to the latest DC version. I could handle the uglier interface (I suppose it's a matter of getting used to), but it seems the DC reader has by design implemented compulsory automatic updates. While it can be disabled in registry, I don't feel like playing with workarounds to something that should be a standard feature.

So, what alternative pdf readers would you recommend? I'm looking for something lightweight; I don't need any extra features since I just use it to read pdfs. And of course with the option to disable autoupdates.
SumatraPDF is pretty nice.
The PDF reader that I use:
Sumatra PDF
I personally use the PDF X-Change Editor but that's not really lightweight. Sumatra PDF might be a possibility.

Edit: And double ninja'd.

Edit2: Apparently MuPDF also has a portable Windows version. Haven't used it yet on Windows though....

There is, of course, pdf.js that is included with Firefox. The downside is that Firefox auto-updates by default (and that this fails the "lightweight" and "extra features" tests. The upside is that there's a good chance you have it installed already.

pdf.js is also available for Chromium, apparently.
Another happy Sumatra user here
There is also Foxit reader. For some reason though, Foxit and Sumatra both open full screen on my Win 8.1 machine, ie no toolbar or anything, very annoying.

I was going to suggest this too. I've found the latest Adobe reader versions quite annoying too and if I do ditch it I will just use Chrome to open PDFs as it saves having another program specifically for that.
Ahh you guys beat me to it. I wholeheartedly recommend Sumatra PDF reader :) Instantly loads, lightweight, you can print from it, etc. All around it's an awesome free reader.
