For video and music? They absolutely do. Google some numbers, I think purchased music is down to less than 10% of revenue.

Truth is bandcamp could replace all the subscription based music services. Unfortunately it suffers from similar malady as GOG does: most renowned artists simply refuse to post their music there, either in fear of it getting pirated easily, or they got cozy with their revenues from spotify.

EDIT. beatport is another drm-free site for music, although this one is mostly geared towards dance music.

Amazon sells DRM-free music if I'm not mistaken. I have not bought many albums but the ones I have are DRM free.

Yep. Even iTunes was selling DRM free music for more than a decade until they started focusing on streaming. I don't think DRM is an issue with music at all, unlike movies and games.

While the Windows Mediaplayer supports client side DRM, no one ever really used it. It was way too tedious for the companies to support it, people would lose their licence files all the time and would complain about not being able to play the music on their mp3 players, so yeah ... client side DRM in music has been dead for a long time now.

Amazon's music is basically DRM free. However, they won't let you download the original version in lossless format, you only get that when streaming. They only let you download mp3s. Good quality mp3, but still mp3, not flac.

And it can happen, that some downloads won't work at some point. That happened to me when they introduced the new store, some songs from the old one were gone. Luckily enough I didn't pay for these, but used a voucher for them. After they changed the shop, they didn't have the licence to all songs, but support gave me the ones they still had.
Apple deleted whole albums from user accounts, that happened to my former girlfriend..

If possible, I buy from BandCamp, there you can chose the format you want to download. Sadly they only have a very limited selection.
