The same blind/ignorant "anything 'political' must be kept off gog...raggghagh" crowd, most likely. They are like drones on autopilot, downrating to prove some obscure point and act like some sort of self appointed forum police.

Thing is, we do have a rule against actual political discussion threads so I'm not surprised when people do it to threads that break that rule. Given that this isn't actually a discussion I'd expect people to lighten up a bit.

Some here take almost ANYTHING that's a hot topic to be political, and some even dislike mentions of such topics in jest like for this game of mafia.....i.e. sticks in the mud/no fun allowed types.

And too timid to write something about what disturbs them. Probably because they know that they would sound ridiculous. Instead they just press that down button and feel great about themselves for having "expressed" their (self-)righteous indignation.

Or maybe it's just one of our script-kiddie downrate trolls. Who use a ton of alts and a downrate script. Probably too feel powerful for once in their life, because they managed to change a meaningless number.

Why do you sound so surprised? I don't think Lift has pissed off a general faction of the forum, so it probably isn't that. However, he (and anyone who spent half a second thinking ahead) knew before creating the thread that a low rating was possible, even likely, based solely on the concept.

Some downvotes are lacking explanation because the downvoter is well aware that the other person/side simply won't listen, and the downvoter isn't interested in wasting time arguing with a wall. An abusive wall, in some cases. I know I don't usually bother explaning my downvotes for precisely this reason.

Yes, of course I knew that it was going to be downrated. This is the internet, after all, and that is full of POOP. (Perpetually Offended Outrage People). The title if the game was going to trigger both right-wing snowflakes, who don't like the NRA being made fun of, and left- wing ones, who don't like pacifists being the bad guys. Or something.

But at least the title generated some attention. Unfortunately it didn't attract new players yet. :-(



But why do you even bother downvoting then? That's something I really don't understand. Everyone in the forum knows, that the rating of a post and the rep of a poster don't mean anything. So what do you hope to achieve by downvoting a post without commenting what's wrong with it?

I'm not trying to be contrary here. I just want to understand the appeal if clicking that button anonymously.

I know it doesn't really inhibit them in any way, but there is still a touch of personal satisfaction in downvoting posts that are stupid and/or jerkish. As a bonus, it hides them so I have less scrolling to do in the thread if I come back later (or if the post starts off stupid, then I can skip to the next post without further scrolling).

Another bonus is that downvotes also track which idiocy I've already seen in a given thread. With the way some people post, they almost act as bookmarks!
