Commander Keen 1, 2, and 3 are pretty short.
Duke Nukem 1 and 2 are also fairly short.
Secret Agent is as well.

Sachys: A little shorter (unless you really explore), but Dear Esther and FTL, as well as Beyond Good and Evil.

Edit: suggestion for the list though - add the category of game perhaps. Think this would also work as a gog mix thingy
I dunno if I want to be the one to assign categories, as that seems like it would spawn a whole parallel argument. But I'm happy to update the main list with all the suggestion.

And thanks for the GOGmix idea, I've been wanting to do one. Now I've got the concept, unless someone jumps me on it.

EDIT: And if anyone wants to include links on their titles, that's cool. I am familiar with most, except for Home. I'm assuming that isn't Gone Home, though that seems like it could be a short game too. (If I ever get around to it in my queue.)

Yah, I could do that. And I'm not putting Beyond Good & Evil on the list because it took me considerably longer to play through that than one day. :)

I bought it in the morning, finished it early evening and got a refund the next day as I was "sold" it by a member of staff.
Think it took me about six / seven hours

I played it on the original Xbox and did pretty much every side quest, took a few days of longish sessions for me.

Got a nice big list going, I will see about creating a GOGmix and then try to organise the first post. Please keep those titles coming folks!
And we have GOGmix. Thanks again folks, I tried to call you out when you made the first suggestion of a title, hope that is okay. It's a product of all your efforts, after all. Keep the games coming and I will organise the post a bit better tomorrow hopefully. I clearly need to rate more of the games I've played on GOG as well.

I should also try to squeeze in plays of Papers Please, Tiny & Big, and Reus, as I suspect some or all of these may be short enough games too. And I'm sure The Horror at MS Aurora will come in under the time limit, since it is billed as taking as long as a typical horror movie, so I just have to play it to see if it's worth even that much time.
I don't know if you're limiting your list to gog games or other forms and/or genres (steam/drm free from a site etc), but here are some I've finished within a day,

All these games can be finished in 5 hours or less that I haven't seen listed already

Homefront
Spec Ops: The L:ine
The Journey Down: Chapter 1

I can definatley agree on homefront - havent finished the journey down yet!
spec ops took me a bit longer though as it wasnt the kinda shooter i usually go for
Most of those I'd agree, at least the ones I've tried, but I don't really think it's correct to put games like FTL, which are constructed around their replayability, in that category. You can play and win a game in a fairly short time, but I'm not sure you can ever exhaust the game.
Half Life 1. I beat it the first day I got it in about 10 hours.
I would question the notion of finishing a game in one sitting. Most games weren't designed to be played that way, there's a save function for a reason. You maybe play one evening, and maybe pick it up again a couple days later. If you think you're gonna forget stuff, write notes.
Some games I've finished this year that can be beaten in a day (there are very likely more but I'm gonna list just the ones I'm definitely sure of)

Shank 2
Home
Zombies.
Puzzle Agent 2
Surgeon Simulator 2013
Costume Quest
Stacking
Karateka
Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded
Waking Mars
Papers, Please
Ducktales Remastered
Game Dev Tycoon
Rogue Legacy
Anna
Skydrift
Gone Home is quite short, takes only about 3-4 hours even if you're quite thorough. Many indies are like that, which is partly why I don't buy many of them. They're full of great ideas and innovative gameplay, just to get you really hooked, and then they end abruptly, leaving you hungry for more. That's why, despite my limited gaming time, I prefer AAA+ RPG's with 30 hours of main quest and 50 sidequests.
Fahrenheit can easyly be finished in six hours for a newcommer.
It´s a very intense, but very short experience!
