I was looking through the GOG upcoming games tab, and one of the items on the list is a simulation game called "Need to Know". Upon first glance, it's looks like a deadringer for "Orwell". You play a protagonist that is part of big brother government spying and hacking into your citizens life. But to my happiness/hopefulness, the biggest difference between the two, is that "Need to know" seems like an actual procedural game with a main story arc attached to it. There are even some role-playing elements like, using your governmental spy tools for corrupt financial gain or improve your chances at romantic conquest...etc..(unlike the flat nobody that you are in Orwell).

You see, I was pretty disappointed by "Orwell". Instead of the sandbox I thought I'd be getting, it winded up being a fixed visual novel. Over here, instead of the usual "click to continue", you explore profiles, newspapers, phonecalls, items, websites...etc.. and "attach to continue". Now I love visual novels (I'm an anime/manga fan), but it is crucial that I enjoy the story, and I did not enjoy Orwell's (story + especially the characters) much or at all. It is very meta in a lot of ways that doesn't grab my attention. Some may like it, but I don't. Just airing my thoughts. I Hope "Need to Know" will be worth the buy when it gets released.

Yah. I was thinking of buying Orwell but I gave it a miss. Glad I made the right choice. Do you enjoy Serial Experiments Lain?

Oh! I heard a lot of good things about it. Are you a fan of cyberpunk stuff like "Ghost In the Shell" and "Bubblegum Crisis" too? What sort of anime do you like? *^_^*

timppu: Yes I do.

I think it is fully possible to come with e.g. artificial implants like mechanical hearts etc... but what can really be done about our aging brains and in the end us all becoming Donald Trumps?

I presume making a mechanical or computer brain and move our consciousness there is quite a bit harder than just replacing our heart. So far it has been successful only in a couple of movies:

Sure we can try to prolong our brain life by eating our veggies and doing sports, but you'd have to remember start that at an young age, and even then it would help only somewhat. Unless there are some new drugs that really re-develop brain functions that have deteriorated due to aging?
Ya like freeform jazz?

Why does EVERY SINGLE picture of Kim Jong Un have him with that goofy/maniacal fucking grin on his face?

Doesn't he ever frown?

STOP THE PRESSES!

THIS is a photograph taken from a suspected North Korean nuclear test site and

THIS is a photograph taken from Tatooine shortly after two droids exited their escape pod.

Nukes my ass!

The North Koreans aren't messing around with nukes, they are messing around with the stolen plans to the Death Star!
