So, I'm going to buy one of these two games. I have played Skyrim and Daggerfall already and I can't decide between these two. I hear Morrowind is a lot of people's favorite, and Oblivion is somewhat broken but I do like its style. I love the lush forests and kingdoms, even though some say its generic and bland. Then again, I haven't played it yet so I can't say for sure. I have heard people complain about Morrowind's combat, but please, I came from Daggerfall so I can handle anything. Opinions?
Morrowind for its gameplay and setting.

Oblivion for its traditional medieval setting

Morrowind is kinda more imaginative. There's a lot of stuff you don't see in usual fantasy rpgs. Oblivion on the other hand is pretty conventional. If you survived Daggerfall, you'll be pleased with Morrowind lol :D.
There are too many goddamn caves and mines in Oblivion, and the life ring at the beginning will kill you!

Go Morrowind.
Oblivion.

The appeal of Morrowind always eluded me.

(Personally, though, I'd just go and play Daggerfall some more...)
Morrowind. More diverse, more open. No tedious hell tower thingies dimension doors to close around the land.

Maybe you'll find the graphics a bit more dated, but the design is better, and anyway there's many mods to correct what could displease you.

But yeah, gameplay-wise, design-wise, story-wise, geography-wise, Morrowind.
AND DON'T LISTEN TO SNOWKATT!

I think we all know why he doesn't like Morrowind!

Morrowind is better in nearly all regards, but has one critical flaw, which made me tire of it: it's completely static and the whole world centers around the player character. Oblivion is much more dynamic and unexpected things can and will happen.
Oblivion has one critical flaw: the level scaling which makes exploring dungeons meaningless since they all look the same anyway. Fortunately this can be fixed with mods. I recommend Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul.
On the balance I'd go for modded Oblivion if I'd had to choose one.
But start with Morrowind and then play Oblivion.

You know how when you play Skyrim, it feels like a totally different game from Daggerfall? Not so much like a sequel but something wholly different that nods respectfully at the old game from which it came? You won't get that feeling from Oblivion, but you might from Morrowind.

To me (and I've heard plenty of times how this is unfair) Oblivion feels like an unpolished beta of Skyrim - I've never once since Skyrim came out thought, "Gee, I should go back and play Oblivion again to appreciate all these improvements." But I have replayed Morrowind and Daggerfall, because they feel like different games.

If you want the comfort of knowing the mechanics before you even create your character, go with Oblivion, because you already know how it plays. If you want to experience something a little different, go with Morrowind. They both have their flaws. They're both worth playing.
I enjoyed playing both games in their times. You should play both of them.

Morrowind is old but good.....
Oblivion is broken big time....

Morrowind.

Morrowind actually has more Magic and Abilities than Oblivion.
The Caves and Locations in Morrowind are were done by hand, are so are quite diverse and unique.
More interesting Story line, at least to me.

Oblivion has more dynamic Characters in that they have schedules and routines, but this can sometimes hamper game play (ie - waiting for a Shop to open or some such).
Caves/Forts are pretty generic, in that they were auto-generated and are nearly identical (which gets boring).
Magic, Skills, the the whole interface was dumbed done in Oblivion (think Consolized).
The Leveling system (without Mods) is a major let down.

I like both games, but from both a gameplay and historical perspective I'd go with Morrowind.
There are Graphic Mods that make Morrowind look essentially as good as Oblivion, not that Morrowind was that bad looking in the first place.
