challice: If i can fix this READ ONLY issue i'm sure i will be sorted .
Are you using an admin account? I know you said you ran it as an admin but did you do that via a standard account and then enter the password for an admin account? Looking at my save folder for obivion, it looks like read only is marked on it too.

Also what do you having running the background when you play? And what virus protection are you using?

I am the only user on this PC and my Windows is always aking me if it's ok to run anything to which i answer yes . I run the default Windows Defender only that comes with Windows 10
Asa sidenote i re-installed the latest attempt into Windows (C)> Games ..... not "My Games" and not in either of the Programme directories, that Games folder was already there and has two older games in it in sub folders .
Another thing with the classic install is that it gave me a very limited scope to install the game to, i had premade a folder on my desktop to try but it would not let me use desktop to select the folder and i dont have other hard drives to utilise either .

challice: I've tried everything i've seen on the web...admin rights , run as admin gog and the game , but no matter what i try the game wont save my progress .
I changed the "read only" file to not read only but as soon as i apply the change and then OK it and shut the file then take a look again it's back saying "Read only" , i know this is a Windows 10 issue but nothing changes the fact i cant make saves !
Any help and advice is greatly saught , i really want to play this game after having played Skyrim on Steam, this is the first game ive purchased on gog.
What happens if you delete or move the folder in Documents/My Games/ Oblivion? Does Oblivion regenerate the folder when you start the game? Or is there nothing there to begin with?

There is no Oblivion folder now in MY Games as i complelty unistalled the game from there trying suggestions posted on these forums .
Check if your username is allowed full access to the save folder. If your user isn't in the allowed users' list, try adding it and if that works.

Okay so start the game and see if the folder (and ini files are created). If so that should mean the game can write to the Documents folder just fine.

Also:

Navigate to My Documents\My Games\Obivion.
Right click on the Saves folder.
Navigate to Properties.
Click the Security tab.
Select your Windows profile.

And make sure you have access to all permissions.

All above tried so many times last few days , haver altered it fine to access all permissions , but the folder remains READ ONLY even after unchecking it applying that and ok'ing it ....go back in and it's reverted to READ ONLY >
Also because of the READ ONLY problem there is no Save file in the folder , i tried addding one manualy but still the game will not save to it, even tho the game on attempting a save says succesful save , go to load and there are no saves and the save folder remains empty .
(and ini files are created ) < < < which files are these exactly as i see no files marked "ini" in the Oblivion folder .

Hmmm, you might want to contact GOG support or Beth support then. GOG might do a better job at troubleshooting this with you. Also try this:

Use the console and enter (Save XXXX) without the parenthesis, with XXX as the name of the save you want it to be. This might work but you will have to do this everytime.

Did it give you any error message or anything? I would for sure contact GOG support at this point.

Just this minute tried again and it said successful save alas yet again no save in load screen or folder.
I've had enough of it for today ... will check back later on maybe for other replies .

Hey did you by chance upgrade to windows 10 from 7 or 8 instead of doing a fresh install? Appears to be a problem for people that upgraded...

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-files/document-folders-marked-read-only-after-upgrade-to/4f00d3fe-82b0-4e6d-a92a-f81751aa6f51?auth=1

Also no problem. Hope you figure it out. If you can't and it hasn't been 30 days, a refund should be possible via GOG support.

Looks like nobody has really found a solution.

If worse comes to worse, and if you don't have much installed it may be worth trying a fresh install of Windows 10. I do know I am currently playing Obivion on Windows 10 64bit with no saving issues.

Here is a guide if you need it: https://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-clean-install-windows-10/

If you have an online MS account on Windows 10 your key should automatically be registered to MS's servers. Just doing a Windows 10 reset rather than a complete fresh install might also work.
OP: You say you are the only user on the computer. What will most likely work, is turning off UAC (User Account Control) - in Windows 10 it's a pretty useless feature for me personally, because when I use Windows I'm fairly careful with what I download and install.

You're going to go to Control Panel > Family > User Accounts (Forgive me if it's different, I went back to 7 a couple of weeks ago and forgot exactly) and from there there should be an option to set when UAC notifies you. Turn it all the way down. UAC is still active in Windows 10, but as you yourself are the only user of your pc, if you can trust yourself, you can turn UAC off and have no issues unless you go to known bad sites or download bad files. Even then, 10 has built in protections other versions of windows do not.

After you turn UAC all the way down, restart your computer, reinstall Oblivion one last time, and everything should be fixed.

Of course, if you're not comfortable with turning off UAC (Some people are not, idk why) then you could google for more solutions, but this is the only one I know of that has a good chance of working without wasting too much of your time. It should also fix your other bethesda games.
