tinyE: If they don't get the site back up it won't be anything. :P

And of course they won't even let me log in. :P
avatar
timppu: Working at least for me, just downloaded their client too.

Too bad the game apparently needs 30GB of free space, so I need to tidy up my hard drives a bit before I can download it... I have 21GB and 18GB free on two partitions, at least need to move around something, but I know there is stuff to delete too. Heck, maybe I will just remove my DOTA2 installation from Steam, I wasn't playing it anyway.
Yeah the site is back up, but it won't let me log in. IT ALWAYS does this. Tells me my password is wrong. :P
When I go to retrieve it, they send me a retrieval code. Problem is the code expires after five minutes and it takes 15 minutes for the code to get to me. :P

WAIT! 30 GB!?!?!
That would take me three months to download!

Hmmm, what can I say. I logged it fine with my fresh new account. I am unsure if I had a battle.net account already, but I couldn't find any details anywhere so I created a new one.

Steam said DOTA2 is 22GB or something,

I think that's what it said in the system requirements. I needed to check it to know if I have enough HDD space.

How much did you expect it to take? Isn't that 30GB quite normal for modern AAA games? Note though that the actual download size may be smaller, depending how it is compressed for download, but I'd expect to be 10-20GB download anyway. Who knows.

Don't forget about the periodic patches!

By chance, is there anything about Legacy of the Void going free for those who have WoL and HoS already?

It's not the time, it's my bandwidth. I get 15GB a month but of course a lot of that goes to the operation of the B&B so I'm looking at about three months.

I think you need to close the shop for two months so that you can download Starcraft II during those two months (15 + 15 GB). You can put a sign on the door "closed due to alien infestation", that's pretty close to truth anyway.

Nothing for those who own both of WoL and HotS. I do know everyone gets some useless portraits though.

I had some log in problem when I tried to log into the client the second time (clicking login button did absolutely nothing), but when I exited the client, it turned out Windows firewall was blocking the client and asking for a permission to connect. So when I allowed that, it worked.

I've now played the tutorial and a few of the first campaign missions, at Brutal difficulty. First two (or was it three?) missions were pretty simple, but now I am at the mission where I am supposed to defend the base for some time for a zerg attack before transports take us away. EDIT: Might be this is only the second mission in the campaign, I may be thinking of also the tutorial missions.

I think this is the same mission where I stopped playing earlier, playing the SC2 Trial version. I hate it how SC2 doesn't let me slow down the gameplay when things get hectic, like Starcraft did. You have to do so many different things at the same time across the map that it merely becomes an exercise on how fast you do multiple things at the same time, especially when the bonus objectives come where you are supposed to save some stranded soldiers outside the base (ie. besides defending the base, you should have time to build an attack party and go for those soldiers as well).

Phuck this, this is not why I play RTS games. The RTS games that I like from the past usually let me change the game speed freely, so that I have more time to think of and apply my tactics. After all, the computer AI can do several things at the same time as well, slowing the game down merely gives me the "same" ability.

I got on but I simply can't push a 30 GB download, especially in this case. If I download something that size from GOG I can put it on an external HD and uninstall/reinstall whenever I want (like the Witcher games) without having to worry about that huge download again. That's not really an option with Blizzard, so screw them.
If Blizzard tried to confirm my distaste for always-online singleplayer games, they did a fine job. I had some work until almost early morning, so I actually saw when it switched starter edition to the f2p edition. Except "Battle.net is down for maintenance." when I tried to look around a bit before going to sleep. I only saw the login screen.

It doesn't? When I tried the tutorial in starter edition, +/- on keypad worked fine. Do they really turn the ability off in certain missions?

Do you know if there is Pause & Play? I am an RTS junkie and that kind of has become a must as the genre has gotten bigger and faster. The first two Warcrafts and the first StarCraft don't need it, but since then, oh man, I'd be toast without it. :P

No idea, I didn't have chance to try anything but the tutorial. You are right, I remember at least two missions from Warcraft 3 where pause and play would be incredibly useful (both in frozen throne undead campaign). But I kinda doubt they did implement it in SC2. Blizzard is all about multiplayer these days, and this feature would not work too well in MP.

One major warning for that game.
The keybind options are non-existent!
You have to screw about with editing them in text files & even then, they're horrendous to change :(
